We are at a ft of a 5+r tourney… We are up agaist a good, mid/high stakes reg, we have tangled a lot during the pre ft phase…He views me as a competent aggro mid stakes reg

My plan was to check raise the river, buuuttt…

…..41/replay/

Any advise on what line to take ?

Bigger on the turn, like to bet something like 45-50k there and think I rip vs his raise. Villain cbets Qx overs and sets etc, on the flop and won't raise a J on the turn. He could check QQ on the flop but def. isn't raising the turn with it. So kinda doens't rep anything.

To be honest I dont agree with wehat you wrote =)

Why do you bet bigger on the turn ? what part of his range folds to a 45K bet and doesnt to a 30k bet ?
Why are you shoving over the turn raise ?

you woudnt shove a Q there, you woudnt shove a J there either…

I want to bet bigger because on boards like this we have a small % of value hands and a big % of bluffs in our range. By betting bigger we give villain worse odds to call hands that beat our range ( hands like Ax, small pockets etc. ). So we sort of balance our range by betting big. We maximize value with our value range and give villain a hard time calling of his weaker range.

About the turn 3b, I know I wouldn't raise a Q or a J but I think  it doens't really matter to be unbalanced in spots like this, because villain doesn't have a value raise range and therefore doesn't have a calling range vs a 3b. ( Unless it's the kind of sicko who raises a J here to induce a shove, but I think this is unlikely in a 5$ rebuy.) So I expect to take down the pot alot.

Yeah I think I'm with pckrr on this one. I think size makes a huge difference for Ax and underpairs. I also think that 3b preflop should be your default.

Thanks for writing your reasoning pckr, it is true that by betting bigger we extract more value with our good hands, we give him worse odds to bluff catch and also i think we discourange him from trying anything tricky beacuse he d have to invest a larger amout of chips so it is true that i should have bet bigger on the turn =)

Really Andrew ? I mean oppo is a good reg and we battled a lot during the ft bubble so i think he d be more eager to 4b rather than calling ip (this is a my assumption, I might be wrong) so arent we kinda “wasting” a hand that flops well by 3betting pf ? Also shoudnt we keep the pots small for icms consideration since he is the only good palyer at the table and we have almost identical stacks ?

If he rarely calls a 3b, then you're right that it's a waste to 3b a good calling hand. However, if you raise to 68K, you are risking 54K to win 57.5K, so he needs to not-fold more than half of his range to prevent you from showing an immediate profit with air. He's also getting better than 2.5:1 on a call. If he rarely calls, then he has to shove 400K+ with half of his button opening range. If he doesn't, you can run him over just making that 3b with air. So basically, you should either be 3betting 98s or T2o here.
