I figure I’m obv up against monster hands but if I hit a set I’ll have a great stack to go on a deep run. With so much in the pot its gotta be worth a crack with only 15bbs right if playing to win?

Well, it seems like you are going to have roughly 20% equity in this hand (I was going to put estimated ranges in etc but was going to take pokerstove 3 years to work it out. But if you assume you are likely against an overpair and a lot of overs it works out somewhere close to 20%, or 4 to 1. At the time of your call (assuming the 2 stacks call your slight raise) you are putting 1894 in to win 5758 which is pretty much 3 to 1. So equity is 3 to 1 and pot odds are 4 to 1 making this -ev. Given how deep you are you don't want to be taking neutral ev or even slightly +ev spots for your stack, given that this is neither it is a fold for me.

Even though I love the BigDog not sure if I would play it as you did. As more people get into the pot, the power of 55 decreases. The chance that someone has >6 in their hand not counting higher pairs increases. Basically the more people in the pot raises the chance that someone will hit what they need if they do not have you crushed already. Even though you are getting pot odds with all the callers to UTG+1 shove, that just means more outs for people to hit after the flop. 55 is a headsup hand IMO.

Shoving 55 as an open (no previous action) is fine with your stack. But calling it off with multiway action is somewhat hopeful at best. Fold and wait for a better spot to get it in.

I did get pretty lucky and flopped the set and held. Gotta stop being results orientated though.
Had a nice big stack and lost it a round earlier with AA aipf so wanted a chance to get back in it without grinding it all back up again. Seems I chose a pretty bad spot and got lucky.
Thanks for setting me straight!
