Ever since Phil Collins brought it to the Main Even final table, it seems like I've seen more strong players with limping ranges in deepstack situations.

I haven't tried it yet, becase I don't think I'm good enough to play marginal hands OOP.  But when we see a strong player open limp from EP, like 150BBs deep, what kind of range do you think we should put them on?

The only thing I can think that makes sense is a suited A, or possibly some suited connectors.  About right?

I would say most small pairs also.

I haven’t tried it yet either, I still never open limp, I limp behind but never open limp, but happy to adjust if this becomes the norm, but I still don’t see the advantage.

That being said, I still isolate with my entire range whether they are fish or good regs and a good ol fashioned cbet usually takes down the pot post flop.

I heard Phil Collins interview why he undertook this strategy, and he gave one reason and one reason only, to move up in the money ladder. He said there was so much money between each step that he thought it was the best way to give himself a chance to move up the pay jumps without investing to many chips pre flop.

Interesting about Phil Collins' reasons.  But it seems that it's opened up the idea of open limping all the same, because I'm definitely seeing it more than I used to.

I'm hesitant to include small pairs, because I feel like its really hard to get value from sets without either A) position or B) initiative, since we really don't count on fold equity to profit from them.  OTOH, profit from suited stuff usually comes from FE+Showdown Equity.  I could be wrong, but that was my thought.

Anyway, the hand that made me ask ended up getting to showdown and the guy flipped up A9hh.

Interesting trend, though.

the problem i have with it is you rarely have position and never have the initiative when you limp.

i think at really high stakes it could be effective but at low and mid stakes i just think you miss out on too much value
