One weakness in my game has been being gun shy in good spots after the flop.  I am trying to change that and look for good spots to try to win a few more pots.

Harrah’s Daily MTT

Hand: KQo;  Position: Cutoff; Stack 14k; Blinds 50/100

Preflop (150) EP calls, I raise to 400, SB calls (10k); EP folds

Flop (1,000) Js 7x 4x – SB leads for 500, I call

Turn (2,000) (Js 7x 4x) As – Sb bets 1,000, I raise to 2,500

This is going to depend on your reads on opponent, have you seen him donk lead 1/2 pot before? Did you see those hands shown down ect, is he sticky once he hit? Is he capable of thinking through the hand?

Next, your bluff needs to make sense i.e. you need to be telling a story with your betting. Raising the turn here is an incomplete story, you will probably have to follow through on the river (depending on the run out) if your bet is called. If you had an Ace would you raise? If not, why do it here as a bluff? Raising turn normally signifies a low set, or that you just dont believe the donk. In is hand the river will probably be the place to complete your bluff.

Slight correction:  I double checked my notes and the villain was the BB, not the SB.  So the pots are reduced by 50 as well.

The villain was splashy preflop, and sort of LAGfish postflop.  Played aggressive, but then straight forward once someone pushed back.

I did plan on following through on the river often unless I river a showdown value hand.

Agree with Turbulence that raising turn isn’t the best line, as there are very few value hands you’d play this way. Better to call and then bet or raise river IMO. I like that you’re trying though, and I think you’re right that this is a good hand and spot to get stubborn!
