Hey guys I am new to the site, I don’t know if there’s already a thread on my question so sorry if there is. Almost every tournament I play there is someone that is 3x or 4x the average chip after 5 minutes. I want to know if there’s a strategy to this. Most of the time I get a bad beat with big hands like AA or KK ect is when I get them in early or middle position deep stacked  someone flats me from late position  the flop comes out thinking am ahead I bet get 3bet and end up busting. My point is that it makes sense for someone to flat from late position” when everybody is still deep stacked”  get lucky and  win someone else’s stack only risking 3 blinds from flatting  +have  position and knowing where you at throughout the hand. What hands work great for this besides small pocket pairs? Am I missing something?

There's no strategy to it. A lot of people play badly, and once in a while one of them gets lucky. When he does, he wins a big pot. That doesn't mean you should imitate him. It's like how a monkey, given infinite time and a typewriter, will eventually write War and Peace.

See them all the time. I had the same question in mind when I first started playing.

Read in books etc that it is common some people tend to let loose and call with marginal hands hoping to get lucky.

I also found myself getting ahead early in a tournament. Doesnt happen a lot but it happens.

I can recommend you to start using the videos on this site if you are loosing your stack in the beginning of a tournament.
