You obvioously didnt go wrong here. Its just a cooler and unlucky. Not much you can do. Sometimes in poker you just have to accept that you got coolered.

Make a note that villain flats KK pre and move on – you can take a few different lines postflop. I don't personally like yours at all but most of them are all gonna end the same way.

I agree as stated this is a cooler, only thing I'm struggling with at the moment (when playing, not necessarily with this hand history) is the close to min raise PF – I know this is common play and bigdog does it so it's hard to argue with(!), but a call behind to a min raise tells you nothing about the callers range so makes the hand harder to play out of position on different flops. For example if you min raise here and the flop comes 2 8 10 and you bet the flop for say half pot, how do you know you aren't just being floated on, whereas if you raise to say 900 preflop then bet >1/2 pot on the flop if you get called is it not more likely that villain has a hand so a turn bet is easier to fold to? Just thinking out loud here.

One comment about the hand is I find raising UTG or UTG+1 with AJ is not that profitable, more often than not someone wakes up with a better hand behind me, and with 30BBs maybe you could wait for a better spot, though reading that back that sure does sound pretty nitty. confused

This is irrelevant to the results, but I'm just curious why you decided to check the flop?  Also, and this is just me, but I don't know how I feel about betting AJo from EP with 30BB.  It seems like a spot where you're gonna get into some sticky spots post.

First of all, Thanks for all the responses.  Really appreciated I am committed this year as have the time to get my game in order which I have failed to do in past years – so all input welscome.

Heres my thinking:

1.  The table had been really tight for the last level so I decided rightly or wrongly to open with the AJo.  Was never going to limp with this.    Having played ABC until this level profitably (Bigdog's Early technique is working well for me and I am happy with my early game) And now that the Antes were in play I decided to add AJ to my openers list all be it in a dodgy position.

2.  The villians flat made me think that he has mid pocket pair perhaps 8's 9's or 10's.   As i thought anything more he would re raise my 2.xbb raise.

3. I have got into the (Bad?) habit of checking when I make the set, with the intention of check-raising.

4. The turn I was thinking i need to get some chips in to the pot.  Which I presumed as it was a nothing card a 7 he called with 10's or worst case Jx. (KJ was a worry and a possibility?)

5. River 7 is a good card for me. I couldnt see anyway to lay it down.  And at this point I had no a clue what he could be holding x7???

Thanks guys.

I'm late to the ball game but here's my two cents

For the first time ever I disagree with more than half of the responses to this thread.

Yeah, its a cooler, and yeah as fkcoolers said, DEFINITELY note that he flats KK oop for a single raise to trap.  Other than that, nothing you did is wrong.  I raise AJo all the time even utg1 and even with 30bb (I'd say anything north of 18bb tbh) at a table where I'm not particularly scared of getting exploited by a capable reg.  This strat would require very experienced post flop play at tougher tables but in a standard $33 im sure playing your hand just for what it is on most boards would show you a profit.

I lean toward cbetting the flop in most cases at most tables–for balancing times you cbet just to cbet vs times youre cbetting monsters on this board; also because this particular board hits a typical BB defender's range very well (Kx hands are very common, Jx still a possibility, QT hands, Q9, T9 hands not necessarily folding, Ax hands possibly peeling one, etc)

His turn check/call and river check/raise screams strength and I would suspect I'm chopping a ton on the river but still never folding (just in case).

As bigdog said this is just absolutely a cooler and I don't find a fold ever.
