I am not sure what raising the flop accomplishes here. You are going to be called by most hands that beat you on the flop, with the exception of a naked flush draw(which you beat with a pair). If button decided to limp(I can’t find a reason why a button would limp into an unopened pot), he is not folding anything he has paired up on the flop. Only hands that might call a raise on the flop and is behind are K5/A5, 22-44.

I am always irritated by players open-limping on the button, and with almost any hand, I will raise if I am in the blinds. Not sure how +EV that play is, but I can’t stand it laugh

I don’t see why, it’s much better for you as the BB than if they raise. Getting to see a free flop with hands too weak to call a raise is extremely valuable.

Andrew,

I find it is very hard to put them on a range when they limp. Whereas if I raise from the BB, I can send a message that I may have a strong hand since I raised where I can see a flop for no money. So, when I check on flops I miss, I might likely be able to see a turn card for free. And when I bet with J8s on a J high board on the flop or turn, villain might give me more credit for my kicker.

Bottomline is, I am yet to figure out an optimal way to play against open limpers from any position as I am not able to assign a good range.

You don’t have to put an opponent on a range in order to make a decision. If your opponent is playing well, it should be difficult to put him on a range. You’re going to have to learn how to handle situations where you don’t know what your opponent has, and just trying to arbitrarily bluff your way out of them isn’t the best response. You should raise many of your strongest hands for value, especially ones that will play well OOP when called. You should also raise some bluffs that will play well OOP when called. You should check many of your weakest hands as well as many medium-strength hands.

Rinse and repeat on the flop, turn, and river. Of course none of those steps is trivial, and there are lots of videos here designed to help you get better at each of them. But what I’ve outlined here should be the goal, rather than “figure out exactly what opponent has and then play accordingly” or “just keep betting and raising and hope that he folds”.
