Why do you guys call it a 'cold' 4 bet?

A cold 4bet is when you 4bet without first putting money in the pot. Like this:

Player A opens UTG

Player B 3bets in MP

You 4bet on the button (cold because it is your first entry into the pot)

if:

You open the button

Player B 3bets from SB

You 4bet SB's 3bet (not cold, you were already in the pot)

Nairb is right…

However, sometimes us pros get a little too excited and call something a cold 3-bet or 4-bet when in fact, it isn't.  It just sounds so damn cool…

Thanks for clearing that up. I don't know if it compares to a 'hood flat'…to me..that's the coolest term in poker LOL.

I've heard Panda say this a few times and i'm wondering what it means..or more accuratly, why he calls it a 'hood flat'. I'm thinking that it means flatting just to be a bitch and to possibly outplay post flop…hummm..

This is the definition of Hood Flat according to Christian Harder:

“simply, it means calling a bet or raise before the river (usually preflop) in which your not getting the proper odds; like calling a raise with 15bbs with T8s or peeling a 3 bet with less then 2x pot with some suited BS.”

it's closely related to “street poker,” which is when two players eschew the fundamentals of play and simply race to the allin button. being “hood” refers generally to flat-calling in spots where no one really expects you to flat and where you often dont have the expressed odds to do so.
