Occassionally you will find yourself in the BB with garbage facing a small (3-5 bb) all-in shove. Assume antes are in play. Also assume villian is not nitty and pushing many hands. Tell me if you disagree with my strategy:
We have a large stack ( > 35 bb) – I'm generally calling since I can afford the chips and I should be +EV vs. his range, maybe a little more caution on a 5 bb shove, but I'm leaning toward calling with any two except complete garbage: J4-, T5- 95-, 84-, 73-, 63-, 53-, 42-, 32
Medium stack ( 25 – 35 bb) – Call with all except terrible hands. Call with something like 22+, A2+, K4+, Q5+, J7+
Small-Med stack (17 – 25 bb) – I'm not sure I can afford the chips unless it's a 3bb shove (calling 2). I'm probably laying down garbage and calling 22+, A8+, K9+, Q9+, JT. Too nitty?
Small stack (12 – 17 bb) – Even if I'm slightly +EV, I hate to bleed any chips and lose fold equity in later hands. I'm going to tighten up my range to 44+, A9+, KT+, QT+, JT. This stack size is where I find the most difficulty deciding. Even K2, Q7, J8 may have +EV against his range, but losing 2-3 more bb's may not be worth it.
Life support 7-11 bb – I really hate throwing even 2 bb's here as it severely cripples and already crippled stack.
Below 7 – Now I'm so desparate for chips, it might be worthwhile to take a shot with garbage
