sup dudes, the dude here again in another tough spot id like to share….

so the other night i was in the $25 10k on UB…for those who haven't played it…its a good tourney…good value – 1st place is usually $2,500….however, it does draw a lottt of fish being the buyin is relatively cheap…anyway..

maybe it was the 5th or 6th hand in..i pick up kk utg + 2….so i make it 3x…i get a flat on the hi jack…and a flat on the button…

flop : 2 5 6 (2 clubs)  i lead out for a little bit over half pot

hi jack calls…button shoves!

okayyy…so heres my thought process…5 hands beat me…. 22, 55, 66, 56, 34 <—-(maybe the 34 suited perhaps with a button call)…(im assuming id get re raised preflop with the aces)

so 5 hands…now, im fairly certain i was ahead of the hi jack call…but the button shove did worry me a bit…maybe hes shoving with a set scared of the flush and straight draw out there….maybe shoving 2 pair also being scared of the draws or just trying to represent a strong with his overshove when indeed he has it…

anyway, it seemed sort of nitty…but i did fold….being that it was soo early in the tournament and i dont really like putting my money in a spot that early on where im just not sure if im ahead…i mean, even if he was drawing…i still am not that big of a favorite…i just rather take those chances deep in a tourney than early on….however, i know some people's strategies are to take the chances early on to try and accumulate chips…

anyway…the hi jack ended up calling…JJ for button…10 10 for hi jack…lol…fml….

but anyway…regardless of their hands (cause its not important what they ended up having)

what would you do?

there is absolutely no chance that i fold kk in this spot EVER!! for the exact reason you gave prior….you will run into a triple up there far more than a set or 3-4……if you think about the hand aa is out of the question because no re-raise before the flop….possible for a set because 22,55,66 all in calling range early in tour. but you have to also factor in 77-jj being in calling range too….for me I'll take my chances and if i am setted so be it…..gl and I hope you ran well

first, please read teh stickies before posting. there is a clear sticky in the “Ask the Pros” section regarding strategy posts. They do not go there, they go here in the strategy forum. Posting them in both places is just going to make the forums as a whole less organized and harder to navigate and use.

as far as posting strategy, please also read the stickies on posting in the strategy forums. there is some fantastic advice in them that will help you to get the most out of your threads.

as far as the hand, i would never fold here. as you noted, there are very few hands that beat you, but there are SO MANY hands he can be shoving. you neglect to think about all the worse overpairs and draws he can be shoving.

seems like in the beginning stages of this tournament I'd rather call and be right and have a double stack or be out without having to have wasted several hours.  This is online, we can fire up another tournament five minutes later.

Also, as hag said, there are plenty of hands that we crush here and only a few we lose to.  No way I fold.

No and I'd tend to lead out bigger then half pot on a board like that early in a tournament with deep stacks as if anyone is flatting with lower cards preflop they aren't going away that easily with a slghtly over half pot size bet not to mention the flush draws out there so I'd charge them good on the flop and call any jam but if they just flat I'd really stick it to them on most safe turn cards likely with a jam.  If your beat oh well fire up another tournament but you will need to find spots to get chips and this is a good one to go after regardless of how early it is.

its real easy to critique play with the results posted, but its awfully confusing to me as we have no stack sizes or blind level information. harder to determine play here without those key components.

but i think im calling here 100% early on in tourny at this level.

Sanp it off. This spot happens a ton. I like the half pot bet to induce this kind of spaz. Both our opponents think they have the olny overs to such a small board and are afraid of the flush draws getting there.

yea…looking back at it..id call this in the future…but i still just hate the idea of putting my tourney life on the line so early in a spot im just not sure about…ESPECIALLY when i KNOW i can chip up so easily outplaying all the clowns in the early stages of a tourney like this….thanks for comments though
