I folded 99 in the big blind here with four all ins in front of me. I was newish to the table but had seen utg+1 bounty hunting pretty aggressively already. Given the stack sizes I’m wondering if you guys think we can justify a call here knowing we are way ahead of the utg +1 range and will likely collect a significant side pot and hope to bink? Went on to win the tourney but maybe this was a nitty fold?

In a non-bounty this is a snap-fold (obviously) but I actually think this is pretty close, if not potentially completely fine, in a bounty builder.
There are three bounties in the pot already if you win, plus the only guy who has you covered likely has a wide enough range for you to have very good equity. Those two factors mean that your EV here might actually be very high.
Since we’re at 250/500 and the bounties are likely bigger than starting bounties, I think there’s a good chance that this is a call. It does matter how big those bounties are – if one of them is really big (let’s say 10x starting bounty) then you can never fold here.
People massively, massively underestimate the importance of bounties in these events. There’s a chance that if the bounties are big enough here, calling and winning makes you enough in $EV that you’ve effectively cashed the tournament already, which is a massive bump in ROI, even if it only happens 20% of the time.
Additionally, if you win and end up with a monster stack of >100bb, you have tons more bounty opportunities. Bounty builder events are ridiculously top heavy, and thus we should be happy making high-variance plays, and focusing heavily on building a big stack that can bust other players and pick up more bounties. Making the FT just doesn’t matter that much in comparison.
