Would you call in this spot on the river given the circumstances?

I currently have a pretty tight image at the table, players have been limp/calling a lot.  GolfinPro has been LAG and pretty new to the table.

The IR only has 18bbs at the start of the hand and so I am just folding the 97s here.

When you flop top pair in a multiway pot I think you have to bet when checked to to protect your hand. If the IR c/r to all in then you can decide whether to call (don't get in this spot by folding pre).

Having checked the flop you now pick up trips, the action is pretty strong to you but you have under-repped your hand and so I am now just getting it in.

On the river too many draws got there, the action is very strong again and so now I am just folding.

A pretty strange hand where your own equity changes massively with each new card (though you may never have been ahead). I think the best option is to just stay away in the first place, the IR's range should be pretty tight to open from his stack size and even though you are calling in position you don't have the odds to try and crack his big hands and may not get paid off when you hit if he has 2 overs.

Let me know if my line of thinking here is incorrect:

Due to the history of the table, I had a pretty good feeling the SB and BB would complete if I flatted on the button.  If the SB and BB were nits, I'd be much more inclined to fold pre to the initial pre-flop raise.  With having a deeper stack and some decent stacks to my left, I figured why not see a multi-way pot with 97s.  Is this a poor way of looking at this situation?

I should add to my first comment that obviously you hit your straight on the river when all the draws got there but with the action to you your hand is really just a bluff catcher. If you call then you are hoping to split but quite likely losing to a flush.

In response to your second post, knowing that the blinds will likely call and make this a multiway pot definitely makes your hand more playable but I am still not calling because the IR's range ought to be so tight here. This means that your positional advantage is much smaller as he will be going all the way so often – if I open from ep with 18bbs then I am usually looking to get all my chips in. Your hand will play well against the blinds as you can take it down so often with position as well as the possibility of flopping a monster but unless you have a read on the 18bb stack to suggest different he is going to prevent you taking down the pot without resistance. You are just not going to hit the board hard enough often enough to make this worth while from a 50bb stack, and even when you do you have to hope someone else gets enough of it to pay you off.
