hey guys, im in the market for a new computer. Im running a intel celeron processer laptop with an additional monitor lol. I need to know what to look for when im buying a new computer, I want it to be effecient for multi-tabling mtt's and handling hud's. What should i be looking for quad core processor? CErtain size memory? Also im looking to have 3 monitors hooked up to it, is this possible and how so? Any help would be appreciated
Hey sniper.
I have the same problem.
I am using a 17inch note book:
Windows Vista home premium
AMD dual core 2.10 GHz
4 GB RAM (only 3 working on 32bit systems!)
2 x 180 GB HDisks
I use PT3 and I can play 9 tables with no problems.
Adding more starts slowing down my system.
The problem is I want to play up to 25 tables (new 50 fifty games) and I cannot use HUD.
Compare my system and get some answers.
A note…
I am thinking about adding more memory (total 8 GB).
Ufortunately I need a 64bit operating system to run them.
I am also trying to figure out if an external SS disk and get the SQL database in there.

Do you want to go with a desktop system or another laptop? I do not know of any laptops that could output to three addtional monitors, but I could provide suggestions on desktops and laptops that can support one additional monitor. Please let me know and the budget you have for the purchase.

Ill add my limited knowledge.
If you seriously want 3 screens then the only way I know of is having 2 graphics cards, at least one of then needs to have dual monitor outputs. Generally if you have 2 graphics cards they usually are identical therefore you will need to go for 2x with dual monitor outputs. (checkout gaming rigs)
Im not even sure you can get a laptop with two graphics cards (probably for heat issues) therefore the only option for this type of setup will be a desktop. Any that you do buy with dual graphics cards should have enough processing power and ram to handle multiple tables and a HUD as standard. Generally the PC’s they make these days will let you do all of this. The problem starts when your using a laptop and since there’s limited space in the case for stuff, they generally start overheating. Not to mention the flimsy processors they put in those things.
I would advise that you get all 3 monitors with resolution of 1900 x 1050 or above. This resolution screen will fit 12 minimised Pokerstars tables on each – 4 across 3 down.
Take from that what you need but it is the extent of my knowledge in this area.

The bad news is your going to spend at least $1000 for the setup you want, unless you build it yourself, which it may be a little less. The good news is you will be able to do three monitor output via desktop. However, I would recommend two monitor output using two big screens. Two monitors is simple to do and most video cards will support this no problem. With three monitors you will need another video card, but also may need additional software and tweaking. If you are real computer savy three monitors will not be a problem. In your price range two monitor setup is going to be difficult just because the cost of two monitors will be at least have your bankroll. If you $1000 or more then I can make some suggestion with new equipment, I do not work a lot with used computer stuff. Would you be willing to build your own computer?

When you factor in the additional cost of monitors the cost could be that high. Plus if you need to add another video card for three monitors that would be additonal $200 or so. It is also a good idea to over budget, didn't mean to scare you. I always look for the best price, but it is nice when you over budget and have a couple of hundred left. Best Buy is over priced, so you can save yourself some additional money; if you have the models of the computers you are interested in check Amazon, free shipping and no tax, their price is usually 10-15% less than stores. Other places like New Egg are low priced, no tax as well. If you have model numbers post them here with price and I can see what I can find.

Looks like Amazon mostly have laptops under the financing promotion, only a few desktops-most are higher priced. Here is the link if you still want to check it out.Amazon Store Card
Like I mentioned earlier, most computers in the past couple of years support dual monitors out of the box, but if you want to be sure post model number of whatever computer you are interested in and we can look up the graphics card and make sure.
Below are a couple of links to previous forum threads that discussed computers and monitors, maybe you will find a useful gem in there.

as we were saying in the chat yesterday –
Don't skimp on the RAM and your graphic cards if you want to do it right. I would think a good computer + monitors + good keyboards + a decent second graphics cards will run you about $2,000. Do it right the first time. I bought my computer over two years ago as a top of the line and I still have no issues. Got a computer that is made to upgrade and went to 8gb of ram a few months ago and it's a speed demon.
