Just as the topic says, I'm wondering what peoples general thoughts are on buy in strategies for 2r 1a tournies (I'm specifically referring to online but either online or live)…

I just bought in for both rebuys straight away… Pros/cons?

Thanks!

buy in for both right away
you can use your full arsenal of pojer weapons play plenty of speculative hands preflop and build massive stacks with your monsters

cons:
if you re bad at deepstacks then well…

This is a little dated, but a very important question is whether you always have the option of taking a rebuy or only when your chips are below a certain threshold: …..nt-theory/

Thanks Andrew! I do remember some discussion about this on the podcast but don’t recall much more than that. So if I was to give a hypothetical… You join the tournament w :01 left in rebuys. Blinds are going to 100/200/25 The table has mixed stacks from1,500-30,000. 3k per rebuy also 3k for add on. What do you buy for?

I tend to always double rebuy for the sake of actualising my edge against weak fields, but that's because I only ever play these tournaments at low stakes. I'm not sure what I'd do if I played the higher ones like the 55quad or the 100quad – I suppose I would analyse the individual table. If most players were rebuying and they were players I felt like I had an edge against, I'd rebuy. If they were good players or they weren't topping up their stacks anyway, I might skip it.

Yes this was a lot of what Andrew and Nate talked about in their podcast.  I play small stakes too so I just bought in for both straight away.  I think people play bad enough if they're deep, and bad enough if they know they can rebuy that it's ok.
