Are there any tutorials here, or links on how one goes about building a data base (using Excel) on player’s ranges, for 6-max, 9-max, or 18-man S&Gs?

I keep reading on various forums about how it’s a great tool to have, yet, I’ve never seen anything on explaining (step-by-step) how to create one, or use it optimally.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Sorry man,

I don’t have any suggestions. But its pretty rude no-one has replied to you.

So I can at least do that!

I Googled it to see what I could find, but all I found were Excel spreadsheets for hand starting charts.

It seems not too many people here have much of an idea what you are referring to…at least I don’t!

Can you elaborate?

I actually saw some interesting things…

an equity calculator which plugs into your database and uses real world villain hands rather than pre-supposed generic ranges.

Excel does sound pretty interesting.

Yeah, I actually didn’t understand what you mean by that and I’m not sure it is a good thing either.

Let’s assume you have a guy with a VPIP of 24 and he flats. I’m assuming you could, theoretically, construct a range straight away about what a 24% may look like, you may even adjust by position.

However after the flop I don’t see how an excel file would ever help you to narrow his range based on the action and the board texture. Sure, it can be more visual on terms of thinking about the range but I don’t understand how it would help you when you play.

Here’s another way to think about it. If you can learn how to range players (still working on it myself), then it will help you with the “why” regarding people’s ranges. It may not be as accurate as a spreadsheet, but the comprehension will help you be more successful when you end up in an expected situation.

Thanks for the responses, and I apologize for not being clearer.

To be honest, I’m not sure how/why players use Excel Spreadsheets, my only guess would be in order to better understand opponents pushing ranges around the bubble/in the money. From there, breaking down their selected range, by using Eq and ICM calculations. I’ve read numerous posts about players who are much more sophisticated than I am doing this, and I’ve seen a few videos (YouTube and training sites) where players are plugging in info (Excel), but I’m lost from the get go.
