Hi TPE, i have a question for you.

I just busted out from a mtt on the bubble and have some doubts about my play, so let's look at it.

Everyone folds to me in the sb, i have 22bb left and the big blind has me covered. I chose to shove the A3off and he snaps with AT, but the result is not the point of this post.

I was just wondering if this is a +ev spot, i basically take it everytime i can and i think it is, especially on the bubble and with those stacks. But i often bust out this way and it's not funny 🙂

What do u think?

Thanks in advance,

phil

With a 22bb stack i would probably be raise/folding to a jam. Its a bit too much to be open jamming, your risk/reward raito is pretty poor since the BB has you covered. If they both had around 10BB then i would consider jamming

Other things to consider would be your image and the tendencies of the villains left to act. If they're really loose and 3betting a lot or restealing a lot i might just pitch the hand.

^^agree, raise 3x and if villain shoves, fold. 22bb is too much too openshove here. Openshove 12bb or less i think. Otherwise raise/fold. If called proceed cautious on a flop that would hit villain's range like flops with a K, Q, J, 10, 9 for example. Flops like 754 or 6610 are more suitable to cbet, but w 19bb left after ur raise u can still cbet 3-4bb many flops and get through or bet flop and then check/fold turn if villain calls.

ty guys!

i'll probably be more careful with stack sizes in these spots… the reasons i shove there are:

– i figure my Ace high is good and have a lot of fold equity

– i don't want to be flatted and play a poor hand out of position, plus

– i'm usually fine with just openshoving ~20bb as a maximum in this kind of spot.

But whatever, probably 3xing is better especially on the bubble and with a decent reshove stack behind (like 20bb)… i will be more careful in the future…

Thanks again guys and gl!

Your stack size is not critical for a shove. I really can't see being spewy with a shove blind vs. blind unless the blinds were really high with antes. You could try a steal attempt with a 3x and fold to any reraise. I don't like the hand for blind vs. blind shove.  More times than not you will take it down with 3x raise and not risk your stack to do it.

You are correct, but with this shove size, the only hands you fold out are the one you beat.

prolly open fold here, i mean you gotta open an ace here but dont have to give away the tourney. 15bb is a shove and with ur stack prolly play A8 and over and open fold A7. tough spot imo

I would only add that nowadays you sometimes get more credit by 3xing than shoving.  so another reason to open vs shoving.
