Ok, at Borgata for event 1  2m GTD.  We are on day 2, 3k/6k/500   I have 102k (17bbs)   Levels are 45 mins   Still 15 minutes in level.  well over 130 till the money.  STILL LOTS of time before bubble.

I’m on the button in this hand.  HUGE stacks on right and left.  SB has 108k.  just got to table.  LOTS of money to play for 330k UP TOP.

Folds to me on button……. K8cc, I jam…..

*Would you jam this?  Would you open to 12-18k?  And IF you open, would you fold to a DRY flop that you missed ?

SnapShove said JAM  But asking for opinions because of money and general thoughts.  Might seem easy and I know what’s kinda right.  Just wondering what you guys think

Jamming here will be highly profitable, and is a very reasonable move. You’re nowhere near close enough to the bubble for ICM to be a consideration, and you need to be looking for spots to steal before your stack shrinks to where you have no fold equity. Hands as weak as A2o,K4s,Q8s (and many more) are unexploitable shoves off 17bb from the button.

Making a small raise is another option, and in most live games I would lean in that direction, unless I think blinds are particularly aggro and/or likely to reshove lighter than they would call a shove. Online I’m a little more likely to go with the unexploitable shove. This reminds me of something theginger45 posted a couple days back, which I found kind of inspiring (added motivation to keep improving).

I had a conversation with Matt Berkey recently where he told me, “I can’t remember the last time I shoved 15bb from the button”. The better you get at poker, the more you should be okay with raising off a short stack, because it creates extra decision points in the game tree for you to leverage your edge.

I think it takes a lot of skill to navigate these situations postflop, and jamming is likely more profitable for players that aren’t comfortable playing wide ranges with short stacks. I think a very skilled player will find ways to make the small-raise approach much more profitable than open-shoving, but you’re definitely not making a mistake by jamming this. If your only reason for not wanting to jam is to lower variance, I would highly recommend closing your eyes and shoving your chips into the middle.

If you want to improve your wide range shortstacked postflop play, I think heads up SNGs and 4max MTTs are great places to practice.

Guys, don’t worry about my overall  short stack play or anything else. I’m good with it all.  Just want opinions on this SPOT.  Most at Borgata felt right time and right spot.  But just asking regardless of skill or your results how you feel about this spot.

Thanks for the replies and things you said so far.

Enjoy your sunday grind. Mines start right now in New Jersey (US)

as mentioned above, i think jamming is ok here, and is def profitable. but maybe just a bit too large for my tastes in a live bird. I think we can just raise here and fold if we meet resistance or take it down post flop with a small cbet. I’d like it more if we were at the table a long time and knew more about the blinds.

Hey P Aire…long time! Hope u r good, and keeping the streets safe!

I think what DDD said is relevant though. If, as you say you are very comfortable post flop, that’s the route to go probably.

Personally, I’m a push fold kind of dude(ie I’m crap at real poker); I’m getting more comfortable with post flop intricacies,  but I’m shoving this all day long.

And also I’d detest getting shoved on by k7s or similar, ie a hand which might well have folded if I had pushed.

I think in the last yr, I’ve started taking spots like this more n more.  KB, I do agree with you……….  LIVE tourney is a bit different.  That’s why I asked the question.  330k up top and 45 min levels ..   I did think I could sit there for a few wait, but this spot look so right with K7cc and bb was short as well.  He ended up having AQ, I still hit a flush draw, but lost.  Oh well………. on to the next.
