90 man, I’ve been quiet for a while, after having been moved to this new table. CO has be open limping a lot so this was an iso-raise. Plan was to cbet any flop and re-evaluate if he donks, calls or raises…

My range on BB was Ax, Kx or FD. I’m repping a big hand which then on the turn becomes a semi bluff. So on the river do you keep going or give up – in my mind the smaller call-me bet would have folded Kx, busted FDs, maybe smaller Ax (but prob not).

in a $1 SNG do you honestly think you will get someone to lay down top pair, especially when that happens to be an ace?

More constructively, I like the way your are trying to think about things but its probably way to advanced for this kind of tournament. The preflop action is fine, i like the iso but with 2 callers behind in the blinds I’m not sure I would even bother to cbet. If i did I would be 1 and done, check back the turn and hope to bink the Q on the river. Hold on to your chips and just wait for spots were you have it, you will get paid off.

As played though I would suspect your only chance to win the hand is to tank shove the river. Part of the reason for tanking is to give your opponent a few seconds to to look at the board. If you snap shove then they might well just snap call without thinking. Allow them to think and get worried before you fulfill their fears.

Yes I agree with your thoughts on 1 or done. I am trying get more comfortable with double and triple barreling so this hand really is practice for that, but in terms of properly played poker I think I should have let go the hand after the cbet.

A tank/shove is a nice idea – this sort of play is way outside of my comfort zone, and something I want to get better at. I’m not planning on doing it every tournament but in the right position I feel like it’s good to be capable of pulling it off – maybe better in a rebuy spot so that if I bust I can rebuy and keep playing with potentially a very usable table image.

I’m still torn though between the small call-me bet looking stronger or the push scaring v away. I think since BB has me covered, I’m more likely to try the small bluff. Switch stacks, where I’m covering him by 2 or 3x more, then the shove feels right. Then it’s his tournament life on the line, not mine.

Bluffing is a skill, science and artform all in one. How you do it, when you do it and what needs to be done to pull it off depends on many factors, not least of which is ‘is my opponent actually capable of folding’ ie can he think beyond his own hand. You need to take into consideration the range of hands he might have, the range of hands you are representing, the relative strengths of those hand ranges. Then, most importantly “is the story you are telling convincing?”  i.e. is the betting line you are taking consistant with the percieved strong hand range you are representing and the board runout.

I would recommend Andrew Brokos vids for the science aspect of bluffing (the more analytical approach). And Bigdog videos for the feel / skill / artform side of the subject.
