I often see some very strange/bad plays in MTTs. Mostly by bad players obv.

But when I see (what should be) a good regular make a rather big mistake (imho) i tend to look closer at the hand. Maybe I learn that he was right and it wasnt a mistake.

So my question to TPE: What is he thinking and how should he play hes range?

This hand plays out in the Big109.

I'll admit I'm stumped. If your flop ck/raising range consists of enough hands that fold, or if your ck/raising range is like…exactly the nuts only as far as value goes, I guess I can see why but it seems rather spewy and too hopeful that you're ck/raise/folding like QTss. Very few players have a ck/raise % that high.

I read through the hand twice and still cant figure out why he shoves over the check-raise, even if he suspects 9T is a strong candidate for your range here.

Did he think you check-raised a straight draw? The problem is the flop hits your range pretty hard, defending out of the big blind. Lots of straight draws, two pair, sets, pair plus a backdoor flush draw, etc. There's nothing you can check-raise with that he's ahead of besides a straight draw.

I know it took me a long time to learn not to bet so only hands worse than mine will fold—that is, to “pick up the pot right there.” But I can't figure out what else he is doing here.

May be a raise on a 758r flop seems bluffy? You aren't raising with 69 or even 78 i would think… The only reason I can fathom the villain to call you is if he thinks you have something like A6 or so..

I would be raising a ton on this flop. So obv I would be raising nutted hands as well.

when you say you're raising this flop a lot, are you more weighted toward a certain direction or is their a modicum of balance between bluff/semi bluff/value/value that wants folds? i think i can see what's happening if he expects you to c/r a lot of overcard stuff. i can't see him expecting you to c/r/fold an 8, which means they must be targeting your air, but it feels too optimistic.

Honestly, this just looks like this particular reg was on tilt or something. I can't find any real reason for this play unless he thinks you have some kind of crazy high check-raise bluff frequency. Really weird.

It's possible he was trying to play unexploitably and ensure he played back at your raise with the correct frequency, but I find it hard to believe that AQo would be in the GTO 3-bet shove range for this flop here. There are some fairly simple baseline assumptions he can make about your range here too, so it's a little unnecessary for him to try to play super GTO in a spot like this when he can play at least somewhat exploitatively without too much hassle.

Probably he was tilted. It never ceases to amaze me how many otherwise good players lose their cool so easily because of a bad beat or something. Very hard for me to respect a player who gets obviously frustrated by the kind of bad luck you should expect to encounter in poker on a regular basis.
