Ive found the ONLY way is to stay positive. No matter how brutal, stay positive and focussed on playing your A game. They happen to us all, ALL the time!!! My brother in-law calls me at 9:30pm est, and I know why, and I could care less too…”dude, listen to this…” NO, I dont care!!! I didnt call him for my 11th bad beat of the day, so why is he calling me?? Its because he's focussing on the negative, which in turn brings out his D game, which is def. -ev. Keep your heads up, stay positive, and remember, we're TPEers, ppl are gonna be constantly getting it in bad against us and hit their miracles. But deep down they know we just owned thier ass, and that's what we take to the bank!!! Keep crushing!!

agree…just by virtue of being smart enough to sign up for training and being in this forum posting you are probably going to be better than your competition by a good margin.  Just imagine how you feel when someone is telling you beats (like sosick did above).  It's pointless and if you focus too much you probably have a flaw in the way you look at the game.

nice post!

This rings so true.  If you are into playing poker the cards aren't always going to fall your way, so there is really no reason in getting into bad beats b/c if you play they've happened.  I read an article in bluff mag and it was saying how if you're in a hand and you KK is ahead of J10 and you need to avoid a A for their straight you almost always are saying no A no A no A………………and then bink…..A on the river and you're busted….well all of your energy is focused on that A what i've done to counter that is just ask for the card I need rather than shout for what I don't need.  Perhaps it sounds a little silly but it is one way I keep myself focused on the positive.  Even if the A does it I understand that it happens and try to not let it bother me, sign up for another tourny and TID baby.

Agreed!

The only thing you will ever see me post in brags, beats and variance is bragsWink…unless I'm trying to help someone else change their negative focus.

If bad beats become something that you can laugh at it will allow you to save your energy for more important things, like getting your chips back, or winning the tournys your still in, or reviewing HH to see where things could have gone different if you had played a hand diff. I HATE hearing bad beat storys cause I dont care, and if I started to care then it would effect my emotions in a negative way, which is going to effect my game. I know how ppl feel after a bad beat, I take them everyday, but its selfish of me to expect ppl to share in my misery. Instead of posting BB stories where you lose, post the ones where you suck out, and eventually you will realize that it goes both ways, its the nature of the beast. STAYING POSITIVE and in a good frame of mind is crucial to success in poker, thats why some top pros hire “life coaches” or whatever the fck theyre called, its key to shipaments, gl all, and plz no more bb stories 🙂

As someone who is watching his bankroll evaporate right before his eyes. Then beat after beat takes me farther and farther away from my goal.  I cant help but think that this particular beat is keeping me from righting the ship.  At this point it is so out of control and I am so scared that it wont correct itself before B-day(Broke).  People tell me that I am a good player and that “In the long run you will be profitable” but again I am afraid there will be no long run if there is no roll left.  Today was yet another rough day on the tables.  I was able to nab a 7th place in a 90 man so instead of being down like $115 I was able to knock it down to -$55.  Down is still down tho.  I dont play alot of volume so breaks are not really necessary even tho I have tried them($500 ago…lol).  So anyway, I appreciate this thread and I hope you dont mind this hijack, but this is where I am emotionally in this game(I have been here before) and so any encouragement or positivity is greatly welcomed.  Sorry for all the parenthesis(they seem to add a little something dont they?)  Oh and on a side note I destroyed a plastic lawn chair.  Thx for reading this.   Greg

Greg, keep ur head up buddy, poker is for the sick and twisted because we're the only ones that can handle long periods of failure due to bad luck. Just keep truckin' if you decide not take a week off(which is really good idea sometimes), just always think of ways to improve and and for god's sake just keep telling urself that you're just on a downswing. I went on a gross 1 myself and am just grinding micros now to get back. Losing $2-5 when my AA loses to K9 doesnt effect me cause I could care less about the $ I lose when its small. When I was taking regular shots at the 100's it devistated me emotionally to bust on a bad beat cause I couldnt afford to lose that % of my BR.  If ur buying in for 1/200 of ur roll even 30 losses in a row shouldnt phase you. I read an article where a guy said, if he plays 1000 man tourny, where hes twice as good as half the field, he can only expect to win 1 in 500 tries. You'll be back to your winning ways soon enough, and this will seem like ancient history, just dont play if you're not “feeling it”. And on a side note, if youre in the pcs fan.ftbl. league, you're ass is goin' down Laugh
