Hello Everybody
To be honest; I am not sure if this is the correct place to post (therefore, please feel free to move it to another forum).
I am pretty new to MTT, but do have a rich history of playing SNGs and have just studied this article: …..tion-tips/ and do have a question in this matter; I am playing mainly on a pokersite which has really SOFT satelites to higher tournaments ($160, $55 etc. pp). Now, my BR is about $3k (I will use a BRM of ~200 to 250 ABI). Shall I even consider playing those satelites or simply ignore them for the time being? I have played the $160 tournament last week and did burst at about level 6 or so (it went all in on the flop FD+GS+2OC vs Overpair to the board and his pair did stick), therefore I cannot really say anything about the quality of players on the $160. The $55 seemed to be very soft (750 participants, made it into top 50 and lost coin flip).
Since I am very new to the game, selling shares on a tournament like $160 –> probably not gonna happen. Do you think it is reasonable, considered I believe that the satelites can be easily won, to keep them playing and taking the shots or do you think I should not consider doing so for the time being?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

It's important to remember when playing satellites that it's actually not really that different to buying into the tournament itself, if the site you're playing on offers the chance to take 'tournament $' in the same way that PokerStars does.
Hypothetically if you play a lot of MTTs, then $100 of real money in your bankroll is virtually the same as T$100, so paying that $100 to enter the target tournament actually means you're spending $100 of potential buyins to other tournaments, just like you would be if you bought in for real money.
Treat satellites just like any other tournament. If they're soft and you have a big edge in the games, play lots of them, and take the T$ if you can. If they're not so soft, or if you can't take the T$, a different approach might be necessary.
Overall, one thing I'd recommend considering when it comes to bankroll management is the average field size you're playing in. That factor is going to have a huge impact on the level of variance you're subjected to, so I've heard people throw around ideas like “your bankroll should be your average field size multiplied by 50” – that's a little arbitrary, but it's useful.
I'd imagine a conservative approach will serve you well in your early days as an MTT player, so try to strike a balance between playing buyins that keep you interested, soft tournaments where your ROI is high, and small fields where you're not subject to huge variance. You can play satellites and take shots at the target tournaments from time to time, but stay disciplined. Everything in moderation. There are no hard and fast rules, but erring on the side of caution is rarely a mistake in this case.

Thank you very much for the detailed reply. I have never heard of the 50 times avg. Field Size “rule”, but it seems to make sense. Of course, as a beginner, the average Size / BI / etc. pp is always some kind of a guessing game at the start.
Coming from SNGs my thoughts have been pretty similar to yours: would I play a $10 9man SNG, make first place and sit in a $50 BI tournament with it? –> No, because BRM would not allow it. However, with the ticket (you cannot take the $T), you have no choice but to use it. Maybe it is something like an excuse.
However, I will try to figure out how much value there is in playing those satelites or if I just should buy in the tournament, once for a while, directly. I cannot deny that mixing in a $55 BI tournament has big motivational impact.
