Hey guys,

Played my biggest tournament ever on the weekend, the $1k first event at the aussie millions, after winning a satellite for $30 (my ABI is about $10-15)

This was a pretty interesting spot about 3 hours into the tourney.

up until this point, my image would have been pretty fishy. firstly, because i was dressed in pub poker gear (won sat through them), and second, well, i was playing like a fish.

i let the situation get to me a bit and played too many pots OOP. James Akenhead and maria ho were on my table as well, and the 2 soft spots had already been emilinated,  so it was pretty tough.

Because it was my largest tourney, i felt like i was definitely one of the softer spots on the table, so i went in thinking that if there are any obvious flip spots, then i should take them as i will probably get owned postfop.

so anyway, here is the hand.

I have 7200 (both players have be covered), blinds are 100/200

Folded around to Maria Ho in the cutoff, she opens to 550 and the button flats.

I am in the BB and look down at 8d 9d

What is my play here?

Flat or fold. If you're playing too many hands anything else won't get that much respect and your fod equity could be a lot less than you think.

Probably just folding here.  Think we can find some better spots especially since we will be oop throughout the hand if we flat.

are we too deep to shove as a squeeze?

we have 7200 and will be adding 1400 to our stack if we shove and take it down

Personally I don't mind flatting. Your getting 20:1 implied vs 2 opponents and are closing the action. Assuming ur not going broke needlessly of course

Fold and pick a better spot.  Remember, you consider yourself the “fish” in relation to the field.  In that case, you should be ultra aggressive preflop and avoid playing tricky postflop situations against pros who are vastly more experienced and can pick you apart.

yep, this was my strategy. hence why i thought it was ok to shove here.
in the end, i did end up shoving, and maria ho ended up calling with AQ
flop Q75, turn 6, BINK!!!
in hindsight it was pretty marginal/bad, even if i knew i didn't have an edge on that table, but i thought it was an interesting spot given that i can basically never call OOP i dont think.

Interesting…as deep as you were, I think I would have flatted some of the time and folded some of the time, depends on how you felt. Squeeze is risky as deep as you are and not a great tell as to your opponents hand strength yet. That said, NICE BINK sir.

I find myself in the 'best to flat ' camp for reasons previous posters have outlined.  What I want to know is- did Ms Ho berate you for the squeeze?  Thanks for sharing the spot…

she did a little bit after.
i got lucky in another spot where a guy opened utg, and i had about 25bb, so i shipped with AJ, and he tank called for about 18bb with 33, and the board ran out 445TT, so i now had a decent stack, then our table got broken.
both times, i was like wow that was pretty lucky, and she didn't say much, but then a while later, our table broke, and we both got moved to the same table, but now she was 2 to my left instead of 2 to my right.
then there was one hand where i opened button and took it down against her bb.
another guy who was also at our table and got moved with us : “now you can do it to her, she was smashing your BB every time”
Benny: lol
Maria: well he shouldn't even be here
Benny: i have no comeback to that
she was pretty nice in general, and much hotter in real life 😛
it was great fun though, and it has definitely made me hungry to play more satellites to get into some of these big tourneys, because if i was playing my A game, i dont think i was out of place at all, but i let it get to me a bit and i played pretty horrible i think. putting it down to a learning experience, but ill definitely be back
