This thread was inspired by an 'Aks the Pros' thread equiring about min stack size to raise fold. Wanted to expand on that by asking – 'at what number of BBs do you switch from raise fold, to shove or fold?'. I appreicate that this is not a simple or clear cut question. Factors to be taken into consideration would include:-

a) Table position

b) Stack sizes behind

c) Suspected calling ranges of those behind

d) game flow, stage of tourney

e) your own post flop abaility

…and I'm sure there are many others.

So, to facilitate a helpful discusion lets look at some simplified examples. For each example:-

1) Number or BBs to raise/fold

2) Number of BBs to fold pre

3) Number of BBs to Shove pre

Example 1

Premium hand defined as TT+, AQ+ from  a) early position b) mid position c) late position

Example 2

Strong to middling hands KTs+, A9o+, 66-99 a) early position b) mid position c) late position

Eample 3

Weaker playable hands like low to mid suited connectors, Q9s+, K8+ and 22-55 a) early position b) mid position c) late position

My own response:-

Example 1

Premium hand defined as TT+, AQ+ from  a) early position b) mid position c) late position

1) never folding with less than 25bbs from any position, would look to raise and induce down to 16BBs from any position

2) never folding pre with less than 25BBs

3) open shoving 15BBs from any position

Example 2

Strong to middling hands KTs+, A9o+, 66-99 a) early position b) mid position c) late position

1) a) might raise fold some of time down to 28BBs, but mostly folding b) Opening pot 80% down to 28BBs c) opening pot 90% down to 23BBs

2) a) folding less that 28BBs b) folding less than 23BBs c) def open shoving 17BBs or less

3) a) 10BBs or less is shove b) 14BBs or less shove c) def open shoving 17BBs or less (might raise fold as well)

Eample 3

Weaker playable hands like low to mid suited connectors, Q7s+, K8+ and 22-55 a) early position b) mid position c) late position

1) a) 45BBs plus b) 40BBs plus c) 30BBs plus

2) a) less than 40BBs b) less than 35BBs c) not sure

3) a) under 10BBs b) under 10Bbs c) up to 16BBs

This is my first run through of this and it certainly made me think. Looking forward to other responses and refining my own view on this. I suggest you try it.
