Mid Stages of a $5.50 1000cap tourney on Stars.  Villian has 3bet several times over the last 2 orbits with no showdowns.  Plays pretty agressive (38/20/17) over 36 hands.

I am new here, so take this with a grain of salt, but why would you call with 10s when you have 50+BB and are at best flipping?  You have plenty of chips behind to fold leaving you plenty of play which will afford you time to find better spots.  Now, if you or the villan had 15 BB or less, different story.

it kind of depends really…he is obv a clown so i wudnt be suprised to see alot of stupid stuff like 87s, 44, etc….its usually AK alot but with this dood, who knows. now whether or not we wanna take a likely high variance spot this early is debatable and usually involves many factors. personally, if i have like 8 tables up, i might just treat this like a goofy rebuy and indeed snap him. if im wrong, theres another $5 mtt right around the corner.

What kind of sizing has he used with his previous 3bets? Have they been shoves? If he's shoved several times (meaning 4-5?) over the past two orbits (18 hands), I'm assuming he's just a monkey and snap calling here.

Each time he 3bet it had been a shove.  My feeling was that it was with air, but the fact that we were both so deep made this a tough spot, as obviously we dont want to be flipping for 50+bb in this spot.

I made the call, and he showed K4o,  He hit a K on the river.

But even knowing that he had K4o i am still not sure if this is a good call at that stage of the tournament.  Thoughts?

Rivermen nailed it!  and if you know he has k4o i first take 10 steps back from my cpu setup, take a deep breath, sprint as fast as I can and call of duty dive at my mouse, snapping my wrist off clicking the call button.

I understand your doubts here.  But this is a good call.  You have a read of a range that is very wide here You are almost 70% favored against a range of 35% of hands and like shutemdown said this is not a once a year tourney.  In the long run this is a good call 2-3 times and you are building a 100 BBs sack that can take you way deeper.  If you believe that you can cash for more than $5 extra if you win half of the time you are already ahead  I would call 50 BBs with TT+ And AKo, AKs everytime. Not to mention that if you dont make a stand even wider than that he will run over you

another way of looking at it is if you compare to calling a shove on the Flop of say 2 pair (like T7o on a Qh7hTc) board vs AhKh you are 66% to win which is about the same

60/120 is still early stages and I snap call.

I don't really think of most mtt's as being in the mid-stages until like 300/600 and 400/800 levels.
