$5 tour. 335 players. We are 12 left and in the money. Average is 42,000.

BB have a 3 bet % of 7 over 45 hands. He had made this move 2 times before. One with Q7o where he spike the Q agains my 88. And one time with 99 where he won the raise agains AK.

I only have 18BB. Should I have pushed pre?

Are we ever open/folding with 18BB?

Dont think im ever folding here considering your action pre. Never raise fold here with 18BBs

I would just open shove pre, unless I thought I could try to raise small and BB would spazz out so i could fist-pump call.

Easy. Open shove that donkey. If you lose flip him the bird and be on your way.

I did snap call and I lost the flip.

But after I was not sure if I just should have pushed pre. Is it standard to push 18BB pre from UTG? And how many BB do you need, before you are just raising instead?

in my mind it is pretty standard, and i think 20bb is typically the tipping point, although i would shove even 25bb if i am getting flatted a lot (which makes it hard to play postflop OOP)

It is a definite call. Shoving pre is a much better play and he would have a hard time calling with 33 when it folds around to him. GL

with players who are capable of reshoving Q7o and 33 you definitely want to be raise/calling here. by raising and not jamming, you give people the opportunity to shove worse hands that will fold to a shove. it's higher variance but higher EV (assuming active restealers behind).

Hagbard makes a good point but I think considering this is a $5 mtt, raising with the intention of calling to give people the opp to shove worse hands might be a little to 'advanced' / trickly.

It might not be the best option here simply because if we raise to 3200/3600 instead of jamming you are likely to get multiple flatters lol and you have to play a pot oop so considering all that, I prob just shove it pre and take down the blinds and antes.

In high stakes land raise-call here is perfect since players shove so much wider and play is alot more aggressive but possibly not in micro land (where i'm from).

Shovnig pre gives you alot more advantages and ways to win…

1. they fold and you scoop

2. they call and you win

3. shoving pre sometimes gets better hands to fold

good points. i would say raise-calling would be correct if the villains never flat you and only shove, but otherwise open shoving is probably better

I think raise/calling is best option as well like Hagbard said.  I have no problem taking a flip at this stage of the tourney to give ourselves a much better chance to get a top three.  Especially if people are reshoving Q7 and 33.
