Bovada $10 12.5K guarantee
Approx 1400 entered, 250 left, paying top 180
Blinds 300-600 w/ 60 antes
Villian is UTG, no reads other than appears to be standard TAG.
I'm on the button w/ AKo

UTG: 26,703 (44.5 bb)
Hero(btn): 19,842 (33 bb)

UTG min-raises to 1200, folded to Hero
Hero raises to 3,150
UTG tanks, uses full time bank, then pushes all-in

Thoughts on my 3-bet sizing?
After UTG pushes is this an obvious call, or a possible fold? I don't see being ahead here much,
am probably racing for all my chips, and will be up against AA or KK sometimes.
Let me know what you think.

I would call against an unknown player unless i thought the time bank was just posturing with AA or KK. If you fold you're down under 30 bigs and when the blinds increase you will be around 20. What makes it worse is that you're still not to the money and players will start to time bank to squeeze a min cash which means the blinds will increase even further until you get to 180. You think on a site such as Bovada players would go for it all, but sadly it's not the case. Depending on the blinds, this play offers a good opportunity to flat preflop and conceal your strength and maybe call a squeeze in the event that the blinds rip and the villain folds. I've started to take this lower variance route and it has reduced fluctuations against big pairs. Regardless, I think you're 3-bet sizing was good and this spot is a call based on your stack and the increasing blinds. What reads made you think he was a TAG and what were his previous betting sizes? hands won?I'm curious to hear responses.

it s a10$ tourney and I have often seen people go all in with AJ, AQ from UTG.

I think Fold might be good depending on how long for the blind increase. But I think with  call you are atleast flipping and if you are playing to win you have to win the flips also.

I think with KK or AA he might have tried to min 4 bet.

This is a call once you 3 bet, you need at least 40% equity. There are only 6 combos of AA and KK and 2 combos of AKs since we have one of each. Everything else we are flipping or dominating. 70 away from the money, gotta take a shot and chip up. Three bet size seems fine, but before you 3 bet you need to decide if your gonna go with this hand. Since you think he’s a TAG you could just flat and take a flop.

Ok, the question i have is why 3 bet and not flat? Did you have a plan of what you wanted to do if he called or raised? AKo is great to have on the button in position and you have ton of equity left in the hand just flatting there and you had more chips that villan can donate to find out where you are. If it was a multi way pot, i can understand.

What does the 3-bet with this hand do for you? Couple of things.

1. It could be to “see where you are in the hand”. Not a good reason. Never pay to see where you are in a hand. Let him pay to see that if you can (since you are in position).

2. To make sure that you want to go heads up but only a small blind and big blind left to act which they would be OP at the stretch.

3. To bloat the pot to win the hand at showdown.

4. To make UTG fold (which with Ako on bovada at button heads up which is not a good move).

I would elect to flat there at the button so that I can approach the flop with a good holding and evaluate the action on the turn. Upon the turn, if he has 55+, AJs+ then it would be easier to decide and less costly to make the decision if he jams or if he CBETs to let him extract value instead of you losing your chips to get the same information.

As played, i would have to think that he is jamming with protecting his holding that would not want to see the flop so that would be some sort of pocket pair or a JJ or below hand. I agree, don't see him doing that with KK+. I see Tens, maybe 9's AJs+ that he would shove with.
