Hey guys what you think about this play?

I didn't had any reads on the villain. Here's my reading process:

When villain checks flop i'm not putting him on great hands like KT, KQ, QT, AJ but he could be slowplaying. After he flats i'm considering flush/straight draws, KJ, K9, QJ, Q9 , AT, etc. Because the board is so wet, i think is less likely that he is slowplaying.

After he checks the turn i believe more that he has the marginal hands  above and i think extracting more value was the best play here.

Anyway, when he put me all in, i'm confident about my hand plus i'm pot commited so thats why the call. He shows AcJs having flopped the straight.

What you guys think? What could be made different?

Looking forward to see your thoughts

I think we can bet a bit bigger on the flop, and just pile the turn; Its a pretty shitty flop, but I don't think theres too much else we can do about it

thanks jonmon,

Agree with you about the bet sizing. And yes, i think is just a bad luck hand for me, but the play was fine right?

If you were 100bbs deep you should never be stacking this hand here  unless your opponent is a certified maniac. Your range looks pretty dam strong so its tough for him to not have 2 pair plus in this spot. But for 18bbs you cant really get away from top pair here.

Bet bigger on flop so you can shove turn. But yeah, on turn you can't fold, even if you thought his range was super tight – you have TPTK and a gutshot to the nuts, getting 4 to 1 or better.

It's worth noting two other things – that a check/raise on this turn would actually be pretty scary if you were deeper stacked, because it's hard for him to have too many bluffs on a brick turn like that, and also that the hand he eventually turned up with is irrelevant. The title of this thread shouldn't be “AK vs flopped straight”, it should be “AK vs turn check/raise” or something. Results are mostly meaningless.

I also see 55 in his range. call min bet preflop and 1/3 pot cbet on the flop to peal one more card and hit the set on the turn… seen stranger playes also.

Would have bet more on the flop and if he calls that and then shoves the turn could try to find a fold…

Bigger bet on the flop and jam the turn.  Bad flop but only 18 BB, got to go with it.
