$330 main event. cherokee casino, oklahoma. 85% field raising 3-6x pre. very soft field

blinds 100/500/1000

maybe 3 hands into new table pick up AKo. villain(80,000) opens 5k utg+2. hero (60,500) cut off 3b 11,500. villain quick jams.

does anyone else feel uncomfortable putting 50 more bbs in?

I do.  With what you said, soft field, he 5x's it.  I'm not getting it in here with anything less then QQ.  You still have plenty of chips and lots of time.  If you believe you have a huge (or slight) advantage over the “soft” field, I fold and find another spot.

I've played in lots of these types that you decribed in the AC/Philly area and they roll over AA, JJ, AQ or 88 and always win.

Depending on what the stacks are behind me, I might not 3bet.  Because of his dumb 5x open, I might just flat in position and see what others do.  I know AK is strong, but you most likely still need to hit the flop

I think flatting can be okay here, but also like 3b as we don't want this to go multi-way. Facing the quick jam, his range is probably looking like TT+/AK, and given the softness of the field, we could just file this under the “fold and don't tell anyone” category. Some live villains in a soft small stakes MTT 4bet range might even be as tight as QQ+ in this spot. It sucks to essentially turn AK into a bluff in this spot, but it's a strange spot (comes up pretty often live) where we are way ahead of an opening range but crushed by their 4bet range.

agreed. also, I had to make an adjustment, mentally.  I def felt like I had a big edge over most of the players, but not let myself get carried away with thinking I can't lose to such a lesser opponent. I didn't back off the aggression, I excercised pot control and maybe executed c bets on the turn as they are likely to call wide pre and post flop. I feel like letting them miss their draws before betting was a much more effective way to bluff.

certainly fine to fold since there is zero history between the two of you. with more dynamics at play…. i dont give a crap about 50bb or how soft the field is….if we knew that he thinks we are aggro internet kid and we've seen him tool out before then im snapping his shove and either flip or crush for a 100bb+ stack, where we can then truly use our edge over the field. again, we would need alot more metagame at play. anyway, i prefer to flat pre if we not sure how to react to a 4b. we can flat to keep worse in and use our edge IP post.

Dont 3 bet fold here, especially with that sizing.

What I mean is that if you plan on 3betting and folding, then just flat pre.  If you think theres value ina 3bet(but folding to a shove, meaning he flats OOP a lot with worse hands), make it a little bigger, like 14k.

Also you want to avoid 3 betting without a plan versus the guy you are 3 betting, thats liek the first rule of raising.  If you dont think you wil liek the spot, just call.
