Hello!

Just wondering if there is reason to call a big bet on spots like this one; We are very deep, and it is early stage of the tournament, pot will be probably very large to play draws, thoughts? V´s range?

No read, about 15 hands played at this point, this V haven´t raised before, at least not this size.

Merge, $11 Buy-in (20/40 blinds) No Limit Hold’em Tournament, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager – The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

SB: 5,215 (130.4 bb)
BB: 4,855 (121.4 bb)
UTG: 5,380 (134.5 bb)
MP: 4,960 (124 bb)
Hero (CO): 4,695 (117.4 bb)
BTN: 4,895 (122.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Aspade Jspade
UTG folds, MP raises to 235, Hero?

Fold. The pot won’t really be that deep once you call a raise of this size. SPR will be like 11 on the flop. I think we agree that you are going to end up folding the majority of flops, so you need pretty good implied odds to make up for that. What do you see as the high-value flops for you, and how often will they occur?

I folded pre flop, I was in doubt because I give V a range of 99+, ATs+, KQs, AJo+, and AJs has 38.79% equity against that, I thought was less actually.

I get some percentages here, not sure how reliable they are.

To hit a pair 32.4%
Two pairs 2%
Flush OTF 0.842%
Flush draw OTF 10.9%Straight 1.31%
Set 1.35%
Full house 0.10%
Four of a kind 0,24%

I would peel one with a pair, not very confortably tow, because of V´s size pre flop.
Two pair will be awsome if the 3rd card is not a K or a Q.

Yeah, there is not many flops hero will continue the action.

Right, and the point is that a lot of those are not high-value flops for you (in the way that K72 is high-value for 22). As you say, even when you flop top pair your EV is not a lot greater than 0. Likewise for flopping a draw.

Hero would limp here, though, right? Out of curiosity, what raise size would make this a call? How do we figure that out?

If no one open or limp before, AJs would be a raise from CO (some mini raise, 2bb, on this level of blinds I am 3x´ing), with limpers +1bb per limper.

I guess I call a 4bb raise from late or middle position, but not EP; 3bb raise I am calling to play pos flop IP.

OK I wrote something but it was nonsense: I had misunderstood something…I tried to delete it but I still get a blank post. Disregard.
