Hello TPE-

This was only the 2nd hand at this table, so no history with the villain.

Sorry for the HH Format, I couldn't get the converter to work for some reason.  I really think I butchered this hand, and need some help with the way I played.  Both myself and the villain entered the hand with 40+bb.  Please comment on the c bet sizing, should I have 3 bet small after the raise on flop to set up a 4 bet call, or just 3 bet shove against the draws in his range?

I think that this is a leak of mine, and always give the opponent to much credit.  With his flat pre and raise on the flop, I put his range on AQ, KQ, JJ, QJ maybe j10, don't think he is flatting with 44. I think he 3 bets me pre with KK, AK, or QQ.  With the way the hand was played, for some reason QJ was yelling at me, a straight draw, or a flush draw.  I also see AQ raising, which with the fd is the hands I beat.  I elected to call to evaluate turn, and when the Q hit I froze.  I told myself the avg player would check with trips, and definitely a boat, but I elected to fold.

Please Help, and don't hold back..I can take it!

I am going to comment on what I feel is the optimum amounts but are exploitable and then maybe a standard line which protects you form being exploited, you need to decide which line to take when depending on level of competition, how ofetn you play with them etc…

I like to Open a bit more from EP as people will put you on a big hand anyway.  And they might even think you have JJ or AK as people tend to overbet these PF.  so maybe 450.  But obv this could be exploitable so if its your STD open I am fine with that and I do prefer the smaller raises in general.  So no big deal here.

On the flop based on your line, if I got it right there is 825.  I would raise to 3/4 of pot so about 615 to have draws pay a bit more and still see one pair hands calling or reraising . but your opening size is fine as it will allow you to be consistent and C-Bet when you miss at a great price.

But the main thing here to me is that I am raising and shoving to the 3 Bet.  If he has JJ Nice Hand sir, and if he has QJ u still have 30% equity and I do see him calling with Hands u crush Like AQ even KQ or AJ.  And if he calls his draws you are ahead unless he is drawing to a Str8 flush (Tc9c or KcTc) which is extremely unlikely.

One additional point On the flop, if you decide to flat you need to have a plan for the turn and river, otherwise you are going to rationalize a hand that beats you most of the time and fold unless a real brick hits.

+1           I would definitly be getting it in on the flop.  AA Crushes his range in this spot IMO.      Props by the way terb you been doing well.  Keep it up m8!

Thanks for the quick replies fellas…yeah, that is what I thought too in regards to get it in on the flop…If he outflops me than gg..but I purposely made the c bet on flop to induce (which I usually bet that size when missed too), and need to follow through. I have to remind myself, that to win you need all the chips anyway..we aren't playing to min cash.
