A little background info. Final 3 tables of a 3k gtd $2.2 tournie. Been at the table with villain a little while he has started really loosening up but the table is very aggressive. I have just had pck AA a couple of hands previous and decided to take a different line to try to get value out of the villain as i think he is often very light here. When he shoves the river it is for the tournament lead in chips .

Would appreciate peoples input on my line, and on what ranges we have our oppenent on based on the play.

If the table is “very aggressive” why would you not 3 bet pre,., so you can get 4 bet, then 5 bet etc. etc. ? When my table is very agg I dream of spots like this…

9 times out of 10 I would be but due to the fact I had 3 bet the aces like a few hands before and all folds and I really wanted to get some value out of this hand hence why I said I took a different approach to my usual as I was expecting to get at least a c bet even if he had air. Are you 3 betting every time regardless?

Yes, at a very agg table,  think I am 3 betting every time regardless,  but interested in what others have to say.

Definitely 3bet pre. In the micros its not generally good to 'balance your range' or play too deceptively as most people arent good and are just gonna spaz and unknowingly exploit you by putting you in tough spots. Definitely want to be getting as much money in at these times too to chip up for the final table.

As played i probably call here. 3betting pre definitely gets us out of these kinda spots by defining his range better.

Preflop I am always 3betting this hand for value. People tend to do all sorts of weird and spewy stuff at these stakes so just 3bet and see what develops.

Once you call preflop, you have hugely under-repped your hand here so villain will unlikely put you on AA. Flop is pretty dry and I'm not too worried about the flush plus I have the As so I probably ck/r flop and lead the turn but ck/call then ck/raise turn also seems fine.

When you ck/raise turn and villain just calls it seems to me that he either has a draw, top pair or maybe hands like small/mid pairs. He could have improved to a FH or already have a flush but FH is pretty unlikely and flush seems like he would have played faster on turn as he cannot have nut flush and would maybe want to protect his hand and also get value from you.

When you check the river it looks like you are giving up on the hand so if he missed a draw he could jam, a J possibly jams and of course all the hands that have you beat probably jam. On balance I think I call because you have shown weakness at most stages of the hand other than the turn ck/raise. I'm not over the moon about calling it off but I think you are good enough to make a call profitable and have a huge stack for the late stages.

so the general consensus is that i should 3 bet pre every time at the micros as im just giving away value by not? and no need to balance my play against these type of players. but as played probably call. thanks for your help. I still have a lot to learn…..

if you 3bet a few hands before, that is all the better, because they are less inclined to believe you the second time around

Balance is highly overrated in MTT's and poorly executed by most players even when they attempt it.

It's a nice buzz term though!

No worries i shall keep up the aggro next time!!! I think i was just to keen to trap and win a bigger pot but with my stack that wasn't neccessairy and got me into this awkward spot, and like benny said my 3 bets before mean he's less likely to believe me anyway.

Aggree to others for 3beting pre, as played I can't see how you can fold this, there are some bluffs in his shoving range, also good portion of his river shoving range is Jx's, so I would call this.

A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.

I would be shocked if the majority of his range isnt the missed Ks here(with some Qs).

I do agree with others that defualting to 3 betting pre here is good and especailly with bennymacca that 3 betting earleir should only make you more willling to do so when you are strong.

I would also donk lead turn as played since that isnt relaly a bluff heavy card and he may pot control or check back hands that will call a turn bet.  It is a pretty good spot to bet liek 30-35% pot and maybe induce a spz or a light call that doesnt believe you.

Like others in this thread, I would 3bet pre, but if played like you did I'm def calling the river.  I do like what CCluster said and donk lead the turn.  At that point, I don't think I'm ever folding this hand.  You're hand is underrepped.

I agree with 3 betting preflop here.  If the stacks were shorter, ie. effective stacks were about 30BBs, it is sometimes a spot I elect to flat AA and either play the hand for deceptive value, hoping he hit something post and cannot fold, oir to setup a good spot for a squeeze play for the BB to tempt him.  However, with stacks at this size,  you cannot allow this hand to go to a post flop SPR of about 12:1.  3 bet preflop and get the post flop SPR to be a more manageable number and get it in unless the board runs out really ugly.  If you 3 bet to about 22k and he elects to flat, then your SPR is about 5:1 and I'd be looking to get stacks in post flop with this hand and that SPR.
