The button opener was an aggressive but reasonable player.
I posted the hand in a chat of MTT/SNG players I'm in. Some of the players agreed with my play,my coach/staker however said this:
[01:29:47] xxxxx: A9 hand dont like, its not a good 3bet hand as its often dominated
[01:30:41] Kevin: But isnt his button opening range very wide @ A9?
[01:31:48] xxxxx: possible but he 3*d and A9 is difficult post flop too, i would prefer even having 56s
Would you agree with him? Or would you play a similar line to what I did?
Generally I agree A9 is not a great 3 bet hand, however I don't see how the majorty of his opening range dominates me,button can open super wide here.
Sure looking at my stacksize,I could also sit on it for a bit and wait for a spot with a better hand obv,but I dont really like getting blinded down and want to build my stack, and usually use many of such spots to 3-bet (with the intention of restealing).
Thanks for any comments in advance 🙂

I think it's one of those hands/spots where it's a 3bet or fold preflop. It doesn't flop very well so it's not really a good hand to flat but you are ahead of the standard button open range and you're plenty deep enough to 3 bet. Plus, we get to play with the initiative and so a lot of times we will get a flop where a c-bet is good enough to take it down.
The board texture is kind of awkward in this 3 bet pot after he calls your c-bet. I don't feel like he's calling as a float and only better hands are calling your turn shove.
I am folding pre. I don't like 3betting A9 from the blinds to a button opener for reasons already stated; does not flop well, playing oop, and you button can easily get you off the hand. This is a smaller buy-in and the button is gonna be too tempted to call your 3bet and play position against you. You did not give us any reads, I guess I might do it if he folds to 3bets 100% of the time but I doubt that is the case. Fold pre.
