I've heard that some or even many pros keep a journal of their sessions. What information do you keep in it. what notes do you write. Is it just bankroll managment or is there scouting reports or reads or techniques about the other players, the game etc. I can sometimes motivate to do it, and I know from other areas that journaling is as beneficial as talking to others but a lot of my notes are short and don't seem connected to anything. Any insight into log books or journals?

i will add notes like “slow played 8s to set mine” or “min raised with big pairs and 5x with small pairs”. What kind of things should I be taking note of?

i like to watch how players bet when on draws and how they bet when they have missed so showdown is essential info for these type of notes so heavy multi tableing makes it tough, i like to keep track of hand strength when they have 3 or 4 bet me and never shy away from your true fellings about someone either ive gathered a shitload of funny comments about players over the years its fun when you change tables and the new table has a player you have made a note on some of the things ive typed about different players are so nastylaugh

agree with twist on noting how players play draws and on hand strength in certain situations.  Ill also make note of bet sizing “tells” if they are consistent.  also if i have nay sharkscope or opr info on a player i will note that with a date and update as needed.  comes especially handy on the bubble and on final tables.

Hi guys, new member here (poomaa on Merge). Struggling in my game with BRM discipline (among other things), and trying to break into higher stakes games regularly. My question is, what kind of balance do you suggest for someone plying $30 and up buy ins (up to say 100 rebuy)? I consider myself a decent midstakes mtt player. Or general BRM guideline %’s helpful. Thanks much guys

i agree with all input that the pros gave so far. id just add that whatever note i take on a player i be sure to date it. just like you, players can make changes to their game, so id be much less likely to rely on something like “6 bet 74o 100bb effective” if i had dated it from 2009.
