This isn't the most interesting hand, but it's a spot I've come across a few times and wonder what you make of it. This was taken from a $5.50 2R1A with 550 players left and top 230 paid. Villain has just joined table, this is his third hand, having not played the other two. I elected to fold as I feel he is committing himself and I am probably either racing or behind, though I could also be dominating his hands if he is only doing this with marginal hands ie 77 to JJ and AJ+ for example. I would be interested to hear what others make of this play, whether it consistently means something and what they would do in my spot.

That is a pretty unusual opening raise.  It could mean a number of things, but without a history with him it is difficult.  In my expereince when I see this it usually means he has something he would be ok to take the pot with down right now and if he is called it can flop well. I have also seen weird betting shit like this with Jacks early position as well. I probably would have laid it down to, unless I have history with someone I respect early position raises.

A stupid 4x+ open like this is AK/AQ a whole lot.  I'd just roll my eyes and fold, since there will usually be better spots against drooling fish like this.

I really agree here with rivermen until you have a solid read on a guy I think it's safe to say that size open looks a lot like AK, AQ even if it's JJ it's still a fold obv.  I would note it and hopefully you'll end up seeing what he opened with and can find another spot to take his chips.

Agree this is a sigh grunt curse then fold without any solid info on the guy

Make a note and keep a close eye on him b/c every hand he plays will be saturated with bet sizing tells!

yeah, you are deep enough just to find a fold here…when I see this I have seen fish roll over everything from low pairs to AA, so until you have a better history with the villain I just muck and wait for another spot.  I don't like gambling here this deep if I can help it.
