Last Sunday I played the following hand in the hotter 22 on Stars with 10 players remaining. After playing the hand I wasn’t sure If I played the hand correctly. I hope you guys could help me out. This is my first post btw so if you have suggestions for better posts please let me knowsmile

On the FT bubble I got dealt the following hand. Besides me, there were 4 other ‘short’ stacks with 9-12 BB’s.

Poker Stars $20+$2 No Limit Hold’em Tournament – t50000/t100000 Blinds + t12500 – 5 players – View hand 2958505
Hand History Converter

SB: t3488870 M = 16.42
Hero (BB): t1242214 M = 5.85
UTG: t1494350 M = 7.03
CO: t2342022 M = 11.02
BTN: t2931873 M = 13.80

Pre Flop: (t212500) Hero is BB with 9 of hearts J of diamonds
2 folds, BTN raises to t200000, 1 fold, Hero calls t100000

Flop: (t512500) J of hearts 2 of spades 3 of spades (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets t164000, Hero raises to t1029714 all in

On to this point I played 105 hands with villain (19/16). I saw him do some spewy stuff before like open shoving 93o on the SB (9BB eff) vs BB.  Last 10 hands he opened up and started opening most hands from LP, CO and BTN.

I believe his opening range to be somewhere between 25 and 50% in this situation which means my overall equity would be in the 32 – 42 range. With pot odds 4.2 to 1, I decided to make the call.

Before making the call my plan was to C/R FLOP all in, in case I would hit a TP or an open ended straight draw and otherwise C/F.

My reasoning for calling PRF was that my pot odds were justifying a call. I am not sure if I should look for these spots were high ICM considerations are apparent (especially with 4 other shorts stacks).

Do you think my play is okay? And if so, how can I properly assess or calculate similar situations?

Many thanks in advance and any tips/advice would be very much appreciated!

Looks good to me, and I like your reasoning.

Hey improvementss, that is surely a positive name, (if slightly superfluous in the spelling department!). Welcome.

I have three comments. Firstly I have never seen a more concise and therefore more glowing commendation from Andrew yet!

Secondly, regarding ICM, as a shorty you are going to need to make a move regardless very soon, unless your BR really needs a FT mincash, and this looks like as good a spot to take as any to me. Also, in a turbo, you are under even more pressure than in the same situation in a regular speed T.

(And less importantly, I see you are still using the old name for the Sunday Hot(ter) 22. Such a ridiculous decision by Amaya to maintain the double guarantee in these T’s on a Sunday yet decide to change the name from “Hotter” to the regular weekday name “Hot”! I never wish ill of anybody, but the day David Baazov left Stars, I did a dance of glee in my kitchen).
