Hey TPE, just wanted your thoughts on this hand, firstly, villain has been very active playing 30/19. His min raise made me put him on a hand that was fairly strong because it seemed like he wanted some action but not a made hand. my plan was to try and take it away from him on the flop depending on the texture, plus i thought my hand played well post flop and i was risking $300 to pick up $1410.(correct me if im wrong and should just be folding) The flop was good for me and with his small c-bet i figured he missed and a raise would take it down, if not i still had outs. I do think my raise was to big though, maybe should of been $1455ish? when he called and lead the turn i thought i was crushed. How did i play this hand and what range would you assign the villain? should i have called the c-bet to keep the pot small? thanks in advance guys.

109o is just too awkward to play oop. I'd fold it pre.

As played I'd just c/c with your oesd and overcards and also as a float oop. If he checks the turn behind you can lead out on the river and still take it down. By c/r the flop villain could 3bet and you'll have to release your hand while having a draw. Might prefer a donkbet and possibly take it down on the flop. If villain calls you you'll prolly have to check the turn and fold to a (big) bet as you might be up against a flush or a K leaving you only with the oesd but w only 6 outs instead of 8 as villain might have a spade in his hand or two in which case you're drawing dead.

It's just a really tough spot which can easily be avoided by folding pre.

I fold pre. Since you chose to play, one thing in your comments above stood out to me. You stated you were gonna try and take it away from him given the texture. My thought to that is you are trying to bluff oop against a very loose player, doesnt work too often.

I think these days deep in MTT's a lot of people look purley at pot odds when facing a raise pre. Especially from the BB when someone min raises and your getting 4 to 1 or whatever. Playing OOP against LAG opponents with marginal hands is asking for trouble, and more often than not when you play the hand out and lose, you give the villain a false opinion that he has a skill edge over you the more it happens and this may change game flow (which is real important late in MTT's) b/c he's going to keep doing it!

It's fine in some circumstances but it may be a leak to do this too often i feel

in saying that, i would fold pre too

As played i would not c/r this flop as again we are building a pot OOP on a weakish semi-bluff

I would c/c here and re-evaluate turn. If another spade comes, a lot of the time we will get to the river anyway b/c he's scared of the flush

If he 2 barrells we have an easy fold

+1 to the fold pre

The only reason i would play here would be if he's been raising my blind pretty much every orbit and getting away with it. If thats the case i would be 3betting him. If anything it makes him think twice next time he considers opening light into the blind of a known 3bettor.

agree'd

adjusting to steals of our BB is not achieved by flatting but widening our 3betting range

of course we are OOP but in 3bet pots the villain isnt going to be floating much at all and therefore our C bets should work more often

that leaves the ball in his court to either widen his 4bet range or nit up himself and stop raising our BB (which is the sole reason we change gears and do this)
