11 left of a small $4 tournie. I opened the button with 88 and am 3 bet by small blind. Not too much history between the 2 of us however i have seen him 3 bet sb a couple of times earlier on in the tourney with a fairly wide range. I had just doubled up having faced a shove when in the bb. The tournie is top heavy in the payouts, we are into the money but im only interested in a top 5 finish really the cash for 11th through to 5 is fairly small. What do you guys think i should be doing in this situation?

Hero (BTN): t124890 1 BBs – VPIP: 19, PFR: 14, 3B: 7, AF: 2.0, Hands: 18251
Player2 (SB): t139393 1 BBs – VPIP: 28, PFR: 17, 3B: 5, AF: 2.8, Hands: 115
Player4 (BB): t174028 1 BBs – VPIP: 27, PFR: 12, 3B: 0, AF: 3.0, Hands: 84
Player9 (UTG): t150649 1 BBs – VPIP: 24, PFR: 16, 3B: 4, AF: 8.0, Hands: 74
Player10 (CO): t74151 1 BBs – VPIP: 17, PFR: 14, 3B: 7, AF: 0.0, Hands: 72

Pre Flop: (t0) Hero is BTN with 8 of clubs 8 of spades
2 folds, Hero raises to t10000, Player2 raises to t23000, 1 fold

You clipped off the top of the hand that indicates the blinds, which would help in identifying how your stack sizes up to the blinds.

However, considering he has shown a penchant for re-steal 3b I think this might be a shove here.  But I can't really do the equity analysis without the levels.

Assuming the BB is 5K, your default play should be to shove here. 88 is a really good hand relative to your button opening range. It's very possible to have a read on the SB that would cause you to do something else, but without that read, you should shove.

This is a shove, probably around 95% of the time. As focault said you need a specific read to justify not shoving here. You have a lot of FE when you shove and he's only going to be able to call with the top of his range (JJ-AA, AKs, AKo, AQs if he's crazy). You will resteal here the vast majority of the time, and more importantly, he won't be very likely to 3b his SB again.

You've got to 4bet shove here.  He's easily making a resteal over your BTN steal.  His sizing says he's pretty weak.  Expect him to fold here and you're going to be 2nd in chips at this table.

Thanks for the replies seems like i made the right decision as i shoved but unfortunately ran into kk but i suppose sometimes we do hit top of his range, and most of the time we win the pot there and then.

Yeah a lot of good players going to put you in a tough spot here and 3bet blockers. 88 is a bvery strong button hand and you have to pile it. Unlucky.
