Made day two of this tourney, with 57k in the stack coming back to 800/1600 ante 200 (36bb)
There was a seat draw for day two, so no real reads on style of play.
Villain have played one hand where he jammed all in preflop and got called by 77 but his AJ hit and he doubled up to roughly 70k.
Folding every hand and bled down to about 50k half-way through first level, 1hour levels. next level 1k/2k ante 300.
Im in bb and utg+2 on nine handed table opens to 3500, everyone folds to me and I have AQo. I opted to call and try to get it in if I hit my hand rather than raise pre.
Flop: Q86 rainbow
I check, villain bets 4k, I make it 9k total, villain thinks for a while and then makes it 21k, what now?
I certainly cant just call right? So it is either jam or fold spot i think.
Is the thought I had pre-flop flaud thinking? That I want to get it in if hit with 30bb?
Also is there difference here between live and online?
Very thankful for thoughts!

You really need to get out of the mindset of hitting hands. Especially in tournament poker, winning pots without showdown is extremely important. AQ is a very strong hand preflop, and when you raise, a few good things can happen:
1. Everyone folds.
2. Someone calls your raise with a hand worse than yours.
3. Someone calls with a hand better than yours but you improve on the flop.
Any of these is a good outcome for you. By limping, you take 1 and 2 out of the equation, giving yourself only one way to win, which is improving on the flop. At the same time, you give the blinds a chance to see the flop for free. Even a “hopeless” hand like T2o will outflop AQ very often if given the chance, so you lose a lot of equity by letting those hands see the flop for free.
As played, I guess I'd fold to the flop 3bet, but I think that the preflop spot is the far more important thing to get right because it will come up so often and because it highlights the need for you to make a fundamental shift in the way you think about the game and what you ae trying to accomplish.

Thanks for your answer foucault
If I would have 3-bet, say, 7,5-8k, what line would you have taken on same flop against opener if he called my 3-bet?
I assume you would have folded against a 4-bet.
i think this question is much more interesting than originally posted. here, i assumed a 3bet of 7700 (you could go bigger, i just chose a midpoint between 7500 and 8k), villain having a covering stack, and with the sb and antes, an spr of ~2.4. on the flop here in this situation, betting between 1/3 and 1/2 would be fairly standard (and jamming turn would be also). against aggressive players you could consider ch/jamming when confident he will bet, but i think bet/betting would be superior in vast majority of cases.
that said, interested to see what foucault has to say about precise sizing.
