Hero?

I don't currently have the HUD stats I had on the villain, but he was somewhat tag, and has not been 3betting too light.  I put him on a range that destroys me here, but I definitely have direct+implied odds to call and try to land a monster.  At least usually I do, but here once the shorty has folded he has just 234 chips, 1BB.

1st is $40, 2nd is $20 and 3rd bubbles.  So mincashing is better here than in big MTTs. But if I hit good and he flops an ace I can have the lock on 1st.  If I don't hit two pair I give up.

If I fold preflop I am playing to lock 2nd and be even with other player.

Thoughts?

If he made a standard 3bet, I think it would be a fold given the other stack in the hand. But since he made it so absurdly small and we have position, I think it's tough to justify folding anything when we're getting around 5 to 1 on a call. I would be playing very cautiously postflop though, and certainly not stacking off without a very strong hand.

It's worth noting here that the fact you have an ace makes it a lot less likely that he does. So you're going to be in a position where the likelihood of you flopping a strong hand and him having something he wants to stack off with is extremely small. But the good news is that if he does have a strong range then hands like 99-KK are going to freeze up a lot of the time when an ace hits the board, and it'll be pretty easy for you to get your hand to showdown without being put under ICM pressure.
