ok, i know i played this hand like a complete jack ass but thoughts please. should i have 3-bet pre or is calling fine? raise flop n shove turn? Call flop n fold the turn if a scary card comes? Im really stuck with how i should have played this hand and i keep going over it and coming up with different ways of how to play it but which way is the correct way, so its over to you guys. Also the river shove? Thanks in advance.

honestly that early in the tourney i would have folded ATo pre to a utg+1 raise

but in your case i would have checkraised the flop to see where i stand, if he has an underpair he will fold most of the time. but if he calls i would fold to any further action.

yup, defending A10o to an early open gets you more into trouble than winning pots. Flopping an ace or top pair might cost you a lot of chips, if not all.

In this case your only beating a bluff, as villain could have a set, strong two pair or a flush. He might have a straight but that would be a thinnish/dangerous valueshove with a possible flush out there.

so next time just fold pre.

WOW!!!!!

badabing78 and KingsBustYou, u guys are NITS!! we are super deepstack in the early going with marginal ace…. definatley would like to see a 3bet pre. if we get 4bet, we fold. when he calls we can start to narrow down his raise call range pre from ep. flop…. i hate it, but we still have to cbet it. if called we shut down, if raised we shut down….. his sizing is terrible tho. personally, i think i fold to his flop bet and keep tabs on his sizing. if for some strange reason i decieded to call flop then im definately folding turn. to call two streets and not know where we are would be spewy.

but lets say his sizing was correct here. i think chk calling flop is fine and chk folding turn is a must. becomes trickey when he has the nuts and chk behind turn and fires river nearly handing us the odds to call with top pr. but that didnt happn so disregard.

Thanks for the info guys, both sugestions are a good way to play the hand, i guess it all depends on how the villain has been playing through out the tourney to decide which action to take. One thing i have realised by going over m HH'S is that i defend too much with marginal hands and spew alot, this is definitely a leak that i have to fix. thanks again

yeah unless you have good reason to believe he's opening a very wide range (which you dont specify in your post) i would rather defend hands like 56 suited because you know you will need 2 pair or better to proceed. ATo is a trap hand because you will end up being dominated so often and you wont know where you are in the hand – amplified because your out of position, which leads to mistakes.

The way its played i fold turn for sure.
