Is it a bad idea to call this preflop? I don't really have set mining odds, but figured might induce some light squeezes from the short stacks which i'd call off if the original raiser folds, and i get to play the hand in position post-flop if it folds around.

As played, I figured i'll flat the flop and allow him to continue bluffing with high cards….

What do you think on turn? Do we expect him to be shoving a pair that beats us here? It seems with strong overpairs he wouldn't jam so big…..

I'm folding or 3betting preflop, it's tough to win postflop in this spot with 77 if you don't hit your 7. I guess I might call if shorties behind were very agg and were shoving really often (I doubt that's the case in 5$ mtt) and utg+1 was agg – even then I prefer 3betting or folding. As played I fold a flop. I think he has to have bigger pair there with this sizing.

this a fold pre dude, set mining under 40bbs way out of position?  no where near deep enough. i think youd have an argument with flatting or 3betting if you were on the CO or button. Other then that just fold here..UNLESS this utg raise dude is a spewtard..depending on his vpip/pfr. he's raising utg with only 26bbs left. you have several shove stacks behind with a big stack in the bb..just asking for trouble here. as played he's shown nothing but great strength. I don't see how your ever ahead here if he is a fairly tight player, not to mention if you are ahead he prolly has several outs to win by the river..im folding flop bet as well… gl

+1 to this. As played my question to Micahkg is why even play 77 in this spot? You aren't deep and when you flat you said this might induce one of the shorter stacks to shove… do you really want to call off half your stack with 77 in this spot? Unless they jam Ax you are more than likely going to be flipping. I just don't like this line given the stack sizes and your position in the hand.  When you call flop, I assume you think you are ahead so how do you fold the turn?  I really think you are crushed here, I mean he could be jamming with AKdd and AQdd but nothing worse.  Muck it pre and find a better spot.

Cool cheers for the feedback lads, yep i can see my strange line of possibly inducing short shoves would nearly always be a flip (even if they squeeze light) (and if the action even gets back to me without original raiser re-jamming) so not a good idea… fold pre and move on…. chur

For the record i hate these spots, its the flop your looking for but unfortunatly it looks like its the flop villain is looking for as well. I fold and leave myself a perfect 3 bet shove stack.

So to confirm ttwist – your folding pre or folding flop? or both? lol. i just wondering as if it was pre, 38 bb seems a huge 3 bet shove stack? And even after flop 35 bb also seems huge? I thought 25bb was sorta more the perfect 3 bet shove size….
