just watched the opponent lose a hand where he tank folded for a rather large pot. What to bet? Ideas.

I would check-shove flop on his cbet, if he check behind, i would bet/fold turn
What cbet? Hero is agressor preflop.
A standard spot imo,
I would cbet somthing like 1845. Dont see to many 9's in his range.

im inclined to bet/call ~1600-2000
Pretty great flop for 8-8 considering what ususally flops when you have a mid pocket pair (lots of overs). I like a bet here of around 1900 to hopefully get him to come over the top with what he thinks is some sort of fold equity. I bet-call here as 9-9 to A-A all prob 3 bet pre-flop with his stack size vs your utg open.
The pots 4k so you might even be able to bet less then 1900 and get the same result (fake him into thinking he can make you fold) so like Hagbard said, even a bet like 1600 looks good.
Not sure I like check/shove because if we check and he checks behind and then turn comes an A,K,Q,J,10 any of those cards could have hit his range and we just gave him a free card.

Perfect advice imo.
I would always be concerned by a less than 20BB flat in this spot, especially since you're raising from UTG. If, on the flop, you've decided you're going to go with it then I like betting less than half pot to make it look weak and hope he spazzes out with a worse pair or overs. I would cbet about 2000 here.
Just to finish this hand off. It kind of made me scratch my head. I never figured him for a 9 here. I made it 1935 on the flop and got insta jammed on. I call here expecting a AK type hand and got a 9 5 suited hand. NH partner hope you enjoy my chips. Was just looking for some confirmation that I did it right. thx
