Live Tourney – $600 Buy In
Blinds: 250-500-75
I have 14k.
V1: Young Asian kid hasn’t been very active – 10k
V2: 25 yo Euro kid with about 9k
V3: 27 yo white guy. He is a dealer and letting everyone know it. Has about 35k
I raise to 1100 UTG with 55
V1 calls. V2 thinks I rasied to 1400 and drops 1400 in chips in. V3 calls the floor over and emphasizes the 1400 that V2 put in commits him to a min raise. The floor agrees and the bet is now 1700 total.
V3 tanks and calls.
Should we just call here or does a shove have any merit?

The floor is the floorman, or the supervisor of the poker room at the moment. He is the deciding factor when it comes to player disputes and such.
Also, I second the just call motion. I’ve never heard of anyone pushing for a ruling that would hurt them (although it does happen).

When I see something happen that’s not right in a game whether it’s good or bad for me, I say something, I’d rather have the integrity of the game intact than anything else, if newbies see the integrity pushed around they may not be playing for long.
the guy who thought you put in 1400 and then put in 1400 put in more than one chip and was 300 more and more than 1/2 a big blind so the min raise was enforced.
I don’t see a shove doing much here, as so numerously times already stated. A call as we have good pot odds to do so, and reevaluate on flop.

Yes I call and hope for the set of 5’s…you’re getting great implied odds vs multiple villains, or at least more than agreeable odds.
I like that you are thinking about the integrity of the games Ray…even if it is for an ultimately selfish reason (ie you want newbies to stay around as long as possible!). I like Daniel Negreanu…he is an affable chappy. But I watched that new biographical documentary KidPoker (which is worth a watch…it held my interest, even though it soon disappears up DNeg’s ass and never re-emerges), but I had to giggle to myself. The guy is a stone cold pro. I am sure he is a decent guy, but his “Mr. Nice Guy” act at the tables is done to benefit himself mainly. Of course, it creates a more agreeable atmosphere, but I have no doubt whatsoever it is a calculated strategy. Matusow tells how Daniel will ask a newbie at his table an apparently innocent question requiring a “yes/no” answer. Daniel will gauge the guy’s reaction; later, when trying to read the guy’s hand, Daniel will ask the dude outright “you’ve got ace/ king haven’t you?”, or whatever, and he will compare the guy’s reaction to his earlier reaction to help him decide.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent there! I am currently suffering a power cut in my home…
I always berate regulars who call noobs fish or donkeys or whatever, at least after the noob gets off our table. We NEED those guys in our games, we should be doing everything in our power to encourage them.

Definitely just call, the guy being willing to flat 1400 is a bad sign and the dude tanking before flat-calling with two 20bb stacks in the pot already is a little suspicious too. You’re getting awesome odds so I imagine you should be folding 0% of your opening range there and only 4-bet jamming something like TT+ AQs+, maybe even a little tighter than that.
