Hey guys..

Just noticed throughout the last few days that I flat a lot of early raises with my mid-pairs (88,99,TT,JJ). Am I missing spots here? or is it the right play. I do have position on the guys since they are the ones opening. Would it be situational depending on the reads I have on the players or should I be making a small 3 bet?

Would love to hear some opinions. Thanks. laugh

I think flatting in position deep is usually best with these hands.  When we get 4 bet it kinda sucks and we do have position throughout the hand.

Early on or when stacks are deep I tend to favor 3betting as a mechanism to build a pot. Having position is nice and I find that a lot of the time when things are deep players will flat your 3bets and leave you room to play postflop and take pots away. If i am not deep (i.e. sub 40bb for me) I will tend to flat if i don't have any info on the player or history and try to play postflop.

I think you need to reverse your logic there …

While you're deep you have the proper calling odds and implied odds to set mine. Below 40 bb's you don't.

Also, 3 betting mid-pairs in the early stages can cause a lot of bleeding since overs will come a lot and be in your opponents 3 bet calling range. Then you're forced to make a sizeable c-bet that needs to work about 50% of the time to be profitable.

I'd rather flat a 3X open at 50/100 than 3-bet to 700-900 with something like 99 and then have to c-bet 40-60% pot depending on flop texture.

If you're 3 betting here on a 25-40 bb stack I don't think you're going to show a lot of long-term profit.

with less then 40bb we should raise/shoving or folding, imo

early with 100-300bb we should be calling most of the time to set mind and play a pot in position
