Hey all, I ran into a spot last night that I'm unsure of and I don't currently have access to Poker Stove, plus I want some opinions!

In a $5 rebuy last night on BCP, we were down to the final 16 and I was 11th in chips. The stack proportions were basically: 6 big stacks (50+ bbs), 4 medium stacks (30-35ish bbs), and 6 shorter stacks (20> bbs).

Blinds were at 1k/2k/250 and I was in the BB with my blind in and 39.5k behind. I had AQ off and the guy in hijack +1 shoves his 19k stack. He's been nursing the small stack for a while and making about a push every orbit, but hasn't been called yet. I had played with him for a while, believe he's decent enough, and assume his range is pretty wide here. Suited connectors, and broadway, pairs, ect…

Normally I would be snap calling this guy but the button, who has around 100k and has been playing a fairly tight aggressive game that I've seen, just flat calls. Leaving him 80k behind. I had seen him play against a couple of short stacks and he had 3 bet their shoves with 99 and AKoff, so the flat call was very confusing to me.

First off, what do we put the button on here. I don't believe the shover is overly important at this point as I believe AQ dominates his range. However, the range of the button is a bit more confusing to me.

Thinking about his whole range in which he would call a short stack shove, I believe we are looking at almost any pair (but given the nature of how tight he was playing maybe just 66+), AJo+, A10s+, and sometimes KQs. For this player, I don't feel like we ever see him show up with jq suited, kq off, or anything less. It could happen where he decides to call with an A9 off, but I hadn't seen him play anywhere close to that sort of range even with a short stack.

With some of that range, I believe he is 3 betting, just like we have seen him do before, to isolate. So what is his flatting range?!

My thinking was 2 things:

1. He could have the weaker end of his range here and is wanting to play against the shove but doesn't want to risk much more. In this case, my AQ is a reshove all day.

2. He has the top end of his range and is hoping that me, or the sb who also had around 35k, will shove over and he will get more chips in the pot.

Hopefully that is enough info to answer some questions. 1. What do we think his flatting range against the push here is, knowing how he's played previous short stacks? 2. How do we play the AQ in this case?

If this is just a standard spot that I'm over thinking, sorry. Just wanted some opinions!

1. Don't be sorry even if you are over thinking it's better to ask anyway than not.

I think it is good you are taking everything into consideration here. The fact of the matter is, the first shove we have his range crushed. Obviously vs 10 bb hijack shove AQ=nuts. The button has enough chips that he is not just going to let through a 10 bb shove when he has a hand like 44s+ A7s+ A9o+ KQ+, KJs+ and so on. Obviously there is a chance he is flatting the top, looking for action but most people aren't on that level in $5r. You have <20 bbs here and it is a fairly standard ship imo. Win that one and put yourself in a postion to win the tourney.

yah i agree this hand i still get it in but its probably one of the worst hands i would get in. Dont forget that IP played can be ahead of shoves range easily and still not love calling a shove here and could have worse. AJs would be sh*tty. A10 i would be folding. I would probably shove 9's + as well
