Hey, I feel like I’m having trouble in type of spot and I was hoping for some input.

When I’m 20-25bb deep and there are a few limpers before me, I’m not quite sure how to proceed. A small raise is rarely going to take down the pot preflop, raising larger is committing a fairly large percentage of my stack, but I’m not sure if it’s right to be shoving with that stack size. Obviously their stack sizes are relevant here, but I don’t have a specific hand in mind, I just encounter this situation a fair bit. Playing on a site that is region locked to where I live, I find myself surrounded by players limping very wide ranges at pretty much any stack size at all stages of the tournament.

Should I just be pushing a relatively wide range to pick up the dead money? More Ax hands and less suited connectors? I find myself getting blinded down in the later stages of the tournaments because I feel uncomfortable in these spots despite how frequently they pop up.

With two limpers that’s 3 a half bb in the pot. Knowing your opponents is always important, some could be trapping but generjally it’s just weak. Similarly a raise from a loose opener.

At 20bb that’s at least a potential 17 and half percent stack increase if you shove and win.
Antes makes this even more attractive.
You say you are unsure, but you’ll never know unless you try. It could be a winning approach if it’s not common on your site. But if your opponents adjust then your edge may diminish Bite your tongue and go for it. What’s the worst that can happen?

Changing the video filter on Concepts to 20bb will get you some pro advice.

Appreciate the answer, I think part of what’s stopping me from experimenting is without hand histories it’s hard to objectively analyze, but I’ll play around a bit since I have a fairly decent edge anyway. The other thing I’m worried about is which way to adjust my range. I do think it’s a spot where I should be pushing more Ax/Kx hands and fewer suited connectors given the light calls that seem to happen, but I could be fooling myself and find myself dominated frequently when called! I will experiment though for sure.

For the video filter, I don’t see a 20bb filter. Are you referring to the short stack filter or am I missing something?

Thanks again!

I agree with Kouman, particularly with antes that’s a nice pot to take down without a fight. If you’re in late position or the blinds with multiple limps, shoving a 20bb stack with hands like 22/A4s/QTs is a solid play. If you have a premium hand, raising small to maximize value is a good way to go as it’s fairly unlikely you’ll get exploited playing a predictable strategy like this at tables where most players are limping.

As a general rule of thumb, if there’s 20% of more of your stack in the middle pre-flop, it’s a reasonable risk/reward ratio to shove and try to either increase your stack nicely or get it in with reasonable equity.

Jamming over limpers with middle-strength hands and raising to smaller sizings with a slightly more polarized range is the way I like to approach things. So jamming 22-99, A6s+, A9o+, K9s+, KJo+, QTs+, JTs and raising TT+, AJs+, AQo+, A2s-A4s, for example. You can construct differently, but I think having a shoving range and a raising range is fine.
