hey hey 🙂
Jonathan little has given 2 examples in his book and i would like to discuss them. It's regarding pot controlling your hand with TP.
This i what he said below:
1st hand.
Say you raise A A to 3bb out of your 150bb stack and the small blind, a tricky aggressive player calls. The flop comes J 63 your oponent checks and you bet 4bbs. The turn is 9. While this card doesnt look too scary, you should still consider checking behind your opponent because he could throw out a check raise with hands like KQ and also JJ, 99, 66, 33, J9, 96 and 6-3. He could also check raise with a range of bluffs, as this flop probably dident hit your hand too well. Eiether way, checking behind is usually best, especially if yu know your opponent will put you in a tricky spots by checking raise here with a fairly balanced range.
He's right that this tricky opponent could c/c sets and then c/r those ott, but i still think there's so much value to be gained on the turn , v could of called with a BDFD with like AJcc JQcc KJcc JTcc or a hand like 45cc 57cc, we could get value from all of those. I just think we should be front loading our value here , so thats bet flop/turn and re-evaluate river.
thoughts on this?
2ed hand
Suppose in the above example someone raised from middle position, you re-raised from the cutoff with A A to 9bbs and he called. Again, you both have 150BBs. The flop comes the same J 6 3. Your opponent checks, you make a standard continuation bet of around 12BBs and he calls. The turn is the 9. If your opponent checks, you should check behind with the intention of calling a river bet, as your hand is under-represented and you will induce bluffs or value betting river if he checks, again because your hand is under represented.
I totally disagree with this ,how can hero possibly induce bluffs on the river? villians range consist of flushes and maybe even sets/two pair with a hand like 99/J9. Just because v checked turn that does not mean we can discount monsters from v range. V is going to be betting mainly monsters on the river and it would not suprise me if v bet a hand like J9/99 otr because hero's check ott seems rather weak, unlikely hero has flushes in their range as they would of likely bet those and if they did check them back , villians line on the river would have to be b/f. So basically when hero faces a bet otr i just dont think they should be calling, Unless of course v is really aggrressive and has a high blufing frequency , then yeah hero could call river. If hero was holding a hand like A A then yeah i reckon hero should be more inclined to call of a river bet (whether they are aggrro or not) because hero has the A they block combo's of v value range, so our hand would be a good candidate as a bluff catcher.. As for 99 well only 3 combos of that and as for J9 thats a small possiblity, they could also have a lot of bluffs in their range they may turn a hand as good as JT into a bluff otr or 44/55//77/88/TT, which really is at the bottom/middle of their range otr.
thoughts please?
cheers!
