reads – V has been playing rather tight during the final table. They’ve folded their BB a lot , they don’t tend to play back or anything like that.
I decided to shove pre @22bb effective, looking back at this hand i’d much rather just r/f in this spot. we could have a r/f range here right? the type of hands we’d want to r/f would be hands that have poor equity vs v 3-bet shoving range.
I guess shoving is profitable here too as V is folding a ton of his range here and probably calling with top 20% maybe even less since they are really tight so we could shove any two in this spot i reckon. It’s just that r/f may be a better option?
cheers

In my opinion you should certainly have a r/f range here and I would never be jamming in 22bb bvb with q7 (in fact, I tend not to have a jamming range here at all). Youre risking 22bb to win less then 2bb – it just doesn’t add up. I’d expect him to call way less then 20% but that’s that significant here.
Also, remember, just because a play is profitable, doesn’t mean it’s optimal.

According to the HoldemResources push/fold chart, you shouldn’t be shoving more than 10bbs here. Even knowing your opponent is tight and playing under the duress of ICM that’s a pretty big discrepancy for which to account.
Yeah, I too prefer the raise/fold option.
If your opponent had been very actively re-stealing, folding preflop is probably preferred.
I commend you for posting this hand. It seems fairly obvious that it’s something of a mistake to jam in this spot, but rather than obscuring your fallibility, you chose to dissect it publically. This sort of willingness to critique at the expense of ego proclaims the conviction of a true student. I respect that.
I’ve learned way more about poker from analyzing and writing about my mistakes than pretty much everything else combined.
Congrats on your deep run too, always an accomplishment making it to the final three. Speaking from personal experience, it’s so easy to feel such a profound sense of failure when making mistakes in spots like this that it’s easy to overlook the recognition one deserves. Good job, man.

I think at 15bb> this becomes a pretty standard shove, even without ICM.
When we factor in ICM I think villain SHOULD be folding a whole lot more. Anything we can do to help our opponents make a mistake (in this case, by not folding often enough) sounds good.
I do agree that we’re above the threshold for this though.
