blinds 150/300 no ante, and going up in < 2 minutes to 200/400

UTG fold

UTG+1 limp, fold

UTG+ 2 fold

Hero (5400 chips) raise to 900 with 9 9

player 5 fold

cutoff fold

villan (6200 chips ) call

sb fold

bb (5000 chips) call

Pot 3150 chips

Flop 2 3 3 rainbow (one heart)

BB check, Hero shoves 4500, villan calls with A 3 hearts , BB folds

Hero fails to improve

Please comment on the initial raise, and other options post flop

I considered a 2500 chip raise, but felt I would be pot committed so i tried to maximize my fold equity

I felt hand was too good to check fold, and a check raise would've been for all my chips anyway

I felt like villan's range was medium pairs, mid-high suited connectors, and air from the button

I thought with higher pairs than mine or AK-AJ he would have 3 bet pre-flop

Not sure how many chips you started with, but you should have jammed pre unless the tourney is very shallow and you all have equal chips.  Raising to 2500 is only to induce an all in and the only ones that are calling are hands that beat you or could beat you like KQ AJ QJ ………

THis couldn't have been a deep stack.  what was the starting stack?  How long are levels?

Sorry ” close in chips “
The consideration for 2500 was post flop, but I thought that was a bad move. I chose not to shove pre since I thought I could get away from broadway cards or an over pair on the flop with a check fold, and had planned to shove any 9 or small card flop.
Btw–I appreciate the response not being derogatory –that’s why I came to TPE –I have heard good things.

There should never be anything said in a derogatory manner.  We are or should be here to bounce things off each other and learn.  I'm no superstar, but can give a good opinion on LIVE poker more then ONLINE poker because that's what I play more of right now.  Take everyones advice and figure it out for yourself.  Take everything and make it your own.

By the way, just reread the hand.  On the flop, why not lead out with one of two things.  The somewhat normal thing to do would lead w/ 1500.  That still leaves you w/ 3k in chips (9bb)s.  The second thing and I like doing this more would be to lead out for either 800-1000.  If one of the players has a big hand they are calling.  The only one calling your SHOVE is a hand like A3, AA-TT, maybe 88-77.  This tourney is more of a turbo, You need to make a decision with those options.

I don't think you should shove.  I would cbet and if someone raises, then you need to decide.

Thanks–the second option makes a lot of sense.

the bb is the one id be worried about as he could be completing almost any two as hes getting good price to call so i guess on 233 if i am getting action from him i have cause to worry, if he had a3 or 43,53,63 even 73 suited or 83 suited he may complete extra chips pre, with such a small stack its hard to get away from but i dont think open shoving flop is best option as if he did just have the two he may fold. maybe bet smaller flop but pretty hard to get away from.

i remember when i used to play a lot of live cash games and my casino had loyalty freeroll every month which was free for regular players and like 360£ for other entrants with first of like 9000£, we were close to bubble and blinds were high a guy with like 20-23bbs min raised middle position and it folded to bb who called flop came 882 and the pre flop raiser led the flop was raised and got it in with aa vs 83, this is a case in point he has just put in the extra one big blind from big blind so what can he have here that hes raising a 882 flop? Probably an eight as hes in big blind as pairs are less likely i guess although he maybe trapping pre with qq/kk/jj. Anyway myabe aa could get away here. gl
