hey guys, my first hand post
https://www.weaktight.com/h/569521b7d39043fa078b45b0
big $44 last nite FT last 3 , i am the mid stack and may be worth a mention, few hands before this , the shorter stack guy shoved for 20bb effective to my button raise and i folded A9s because although he s been active it was his first shove and showed him it, thinkin had i had AJs + i d deff call .
Is this a clear call? i thought it was at the time, but would love some input

It’s not a clear call, it’s a borderline hand. Using a generic tourney pay out structure the GTO solution has us calling with AJs 56% of the time. I would use a few factors to make my decision here. If I felt like I had an edge on the remaining two players I would fold, if I felt like I was outclassed by the two remaining players I would call. Also if we feel like villain is doing this wider than GTO (8%) we have to call and fold if we think he is tighter than optimal. If you have the exact payouts I can run it again and it may change the solution.

Yeah, don’t give your opponents free information. Sure, when you are stealing, it can be nice for them to think that you aren’t, but then again, when you have a big hand, you want them to think you are. There’s no clear advantage to causing them to think one thing or another, never mind that showing doesn’t really prove that anyway (just because you had A9s doesn’t mean you wouldn’t have raised weaker hands).

Thanx for input Andrew , still is the AJs a call/fold in your opinion? He hadnt shoved any other time previous to that and came into the FT as largest stack and had been pretty quiet too, i guess i ve just answered myself ha

Changed payouts, calling becomes slightly more profitable but still only calling 71% of the time. Both calling or folding would be fine here. Agree with Andrew that showing is always a bad idea.
thank you for your input there kmid, the more i think of it the more i regret it, whats done is done but for future would you say AQo, 99 + would be good? or maybe JJ, AK + if not please what would your calling range be? remember its only their second shove and we d played at the same table for maybe 3 hrs and he d been tourney chip leader all that time, here s he s stats
263 hands
24/18
postflop agg 2.0
3bet 13.0

Against those stats I likely call 88+ AJo+ ATs+ KQs. Don’t think you should regret the call at all. Whilst it was wrong against his particular hand it’s very likely correct against his range, seeing his stats confirms this. Also showing the A9s will likely make him 3bet wider against you. Its likely it’s only his second shove because the blinds have gone up and his stack has gone down and he’s only recently found himself with a stack where reshoving is the optimal play.
If your having trouble with constructing calling ranges in spots like this it’s worth investing a little bit of your nice £2.3k win in some software. I’d recommend HoldemResources Calculator but there are competitors out there that I know others prefer.
